The Thunder Thread

Who here even remembers these guys? My brother and I were fans of the band, and believe it or not they reformed a while ago, and now have a new video

Discuss the fun band that is/was Thunder.

They were such a great live band and probably still is, haven't followed them in a while.

Their "Live" DVD from 1998 is really great and I can highly recommend it if you haven't checked it out.

Loved the first album and they are always a good listen but I got a bit bored after 2-3 albums.
They were always great live and Danny has a great voice.

The latest album was ok.

Fantastic band. Followed them right from the first album. They have some very non-essential output but at their best put out a vibe that is just perfect. Danny Bowes has one of the top ten rock voices of all time. Seriously.

Saw them on the Rip It Up tour on Leicester this year. Cracking stuff. Masses of joy.  :tup

Big big fan since Laughing On Judgement Day, great bluesy hard rock band and still going strong imo. Great live band also.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

"Laughing On Judgement Day" is such a great album!
Got to see them only once live (during their 'farewell tour" in 2009) and they rocked big time!
Keep prog alive - see it live!

Been listening to their last one Dopamine this week. It's great. Also a huge 16 track double album. But it's got a really genuine, happy, laid back, in your local pub, sound. Great writing and playing.

I really liked their debut album, but kind of lost touch after that, what with grunge and Dream Theater happening shortly thereafter.  Just looked them up in wikipedia and had no idea they had released that much material.

I may have to catch up.  Has their style changed since their debut?  Or still mostly hard rock stuff?

Still mostly hard rock stuff. No really big changes but still going strong imo.

If you only know the debut, I would suggest to go chronologically. The next one, Laughing On Judgement Day is considered the best one by many and I wouldn't disagree, but there's good stuff on every record.

If it's better than the debut, then I imagine I will like it very much.

Thanks!

They've really not changed much at all over the years.  :lol Laughing On Judgment Day is my favourite too. So many great tracks.

The next two albums after that are really solid also.

Rip It Up and Dopamine have been great on the later period.

Always loved Thunders energy live although i've never seen them IRL sadly. LOJD is also my favourite, so many great songs but Backstreet Symphony is a close second.

I thought Dopamine was very good...I hadn't followed the band all that much over the past few years and gave the album the shot. Real enjoyable, for sure.

There really isn't a bad Thunder album, although I think their first four (Backstreet Symphony, Laughing On Judgement Day, Behind Closed Doors, The Thrill Of It All) are their strongest records.

Other highlights for me are The Magnificent Seventh, Wonder Days and their latest Dopamine.

And Danny Bowes still sounds good.

Also a fan and think Laughing On Judgement Day is their best.  Never was too fond of some of their more PubRock stuff such as Dirty Love, but guess those generated hits.

Their first three albums are essential and always preferred  the likes of Low Life In High Places, Better Man, Love Walked in and many the album cuts such as Feeding The Flame...

Great band!

Think Bowes recently had a stroke after a fall and is recovering atm fingers crossed he does well \m/

Oh shit, didn't know that about Danny.

A quick search says that his accident was last summer and a short interview from February this year says that he is feeling better but is still in the recovery process and he won't be returning to the stage anytime soon. But he has his voice again.

So yeah, fingers crossed for him and his recovery.

I love the simple verse riff in Laughing on Judgement Day especially when the bass joins in the second half, that makes the riff even more groovy.
