New Tony Macalpine self titled solo album coming in June
« on: May 07, 2011, 02:24:25 AM »
I know this will go to page 2 very quickly, but Tony is a top 3 guitar player of mine and he is finally releasing a new solo album on June 21.

https://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=157792

Go to his homepage and you can download the first two tracks.  I'm listening right now it they don't disappoint.  Amazing stuff, really quite heavy, very much looking forward to it.  Any guitarist should check Tony out.  https://www.tonymacalpine.com/

"Tony MacAlpine" track listing:

01. Serpens Cauda (4:23)
02. Ölüdeniz (5:16)
03. Fire Mountain (4:23)
04. Dream Mechanism (4:18)
05. Ten Seconds to Mercury (4:35)
06. Flowers For Monday (3:05)
07. Angel of Twilight (5:03)
08. Pyrokinesis (3:56)
09. Blue Maserati (4:41)
10. Summer Palace (4:36)
11. Salar de Uyuni (5:40)
12. The Dedication (4:22)

Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

One of my favourite players. Edge Of Insanity and Maximum Security are two of the best instrumental albums ever for me. And his piano playing was great too. Shame he doesn't showcase that more. Will check this out.

8 string? Really?

Hadn't expected that. But I'm interested to hear if he finally writes some planet x type music by himself too.

Just finished listening to the first track and I like it, not something I would listen to everyday but it isn't something I'd change if it came on.

About time!  I've kinda hated his tone and repetitive bend tap tap tap lick for about a decade now, but with so long between albums I look forward to giving this a shot and hearing what he has in the song writing dept.

Agree man, those two albums are just perfection.

Yeah, CAB is awesome, and I'm a huge fan of his work with Mark Boals and Ring of Fire.  Mark's album Ring of Fire was just epic power neoclassical metal, great stuff.  The live DVD from Japan is amazing.  His work on Mark's Edge of The World CD is killer too.

Great to see some appriciation for this guy!!  :metal

Yep, Fly is my fav aswell.  That note Mark hits at the end is incredible!  That song has Aussie guitarist Chris Brooks, great player.

I was going to reminisce about how one of the first issues of Guitar Magazine that I owned had a transcription to "The Pepper Shake" in it, but then I remembered that was Greg Howe.  :lol

His stuff with Steve Vai alone would've made me a fan.  Admittedly, I need to go back and check out all his earliest stuff from Shrapnel.  There's a LOT of stuff from Shrapnel I need to check out.

One of the most insane bits with TM from Vai's "Live at the Astoria" DVD:

Down Deep Into the Pain

Mate, you NEED to check out Edge of Insanity and Maximum Security.  It's as good as any Vai, Satriani, Howe, Becker, Friedman, Moore, Tafolla, Gilbert, Kotzen albums.  Edge of Insanity I would easily put in mt top 5 shred albums of all time.

Indeed, I need to get those.  Bonus is that Billy Sheehan plays bass on Edge of Insanity.  Also cool, I see that Randy Jackson and John Alderete played bass on Eyes of the World.  Wow!

Yep, and Tony really let Billy add his own sound to that record, great stuff.  Tony has also worked with, Steve Smith, Dean Castranovo, Mike Terrana, Tony Franklin, Jens Johannson etc.

It also looks like Virgil and Marco provide drums for this album too, and the great Philip Bynoe provides the bass.

Not coming to Florida :(  Have to correct you though, as Maximum Security was released in 1987, so its more of a 27th anniversary.  Still, that album stands the test of time.  No way I would guess that it was made in the late 80s.

According to Amazon Maximum Security came out in 1994. Or at least that's the first time it was released on CD? That's possibly why I was thinking 20 years.

Could be. My vinyl is from 87.

Saw Tony Macalpine yesterday in San Antonio. Great underrated player. He's touring so please support him. Got to chat after the show with him and very humbled. I got to hold the Macalpine guitar for a few seconds. It was a treat watching him play.

I've got a ticket for one of his shows in NYC in a couple weeks. Not familiar with his stuff at all, made the purchase just based on recommendation. Will be interesting going into the show cold as far as the material goes.

Such an underrated guitarist.  I saw him live with Steve Vai and the Virgil Donati band.  Wonderful to watch both times.
