Nay... I've got a great cover in my pocket, but A) I'm standing with my bro-chef, and B) looks like my vote doesn't matter anyway.

I might just send this out of protest.   :lol

Find a version of Vulfpeck doing that.  :)

‘Yay’, because frankly, I don’t mind either way. Your roulette, your rules. If you want a cover song, sure, I’ll send you one. I could probably get you somwthing better with a different theme, but I’ll find you something that works.

I count seven Yay's.   The covers have it.

By the way, some interesting choices for the HoF round.  Pretty impressed (and I'm looking forward to one song as much as any in the entire roulette, for various reasons; though that said, that person dodged a HUGE bullet without even realizing it).

Hall of Fame was my least favorite round of all time. (OK this is my first roulette so that's not saying much).

Stadler - for the cover, if it's band you haven't heard covering a song you've never heard, does that work or do you want only songs that you'd definitely know?

nice one though.

That's the one I was originally going to post, but then thought it'd be a good time for a Winger-roll.

No, that's fine.  Only rule is that the band playing can't be banned, and the song itself has to have been done by someone else first (and not be a song specifically written for that act by an outside writer).

Stadler, would you consider letting us know at least what bands were sent for this round? I think a lot of them will be met with some shock that they weren't banned in the first place.

I'm looking forward to some interesting write-ups then!

They might be; after all that buildup, I've listened a couple times to each, and was MIGHTILY disappointed.  Not in every case, but I was thinking "HoF round, all good bands, no Vulfpeck (just kidding, Antigoon), and two songs I've been meaning to listen to for YEARS, and this is going to be GREAT!"   Not so much.   I'm going to listen again so that I can be fair to the scoring, but...  my dilemma here is that I've boxed myself into a corner; do I purely rate just the song and whether I like it?   Or do I account for how indicative it is of the artist's work (as I know it)?  Or degree of agreement on HoF worthiness?   I'm leaning to the first one, but I'll give another listen before I decide.  I was even thinking just ranking them one through 10, and giving the first song "10", the second "9", the third "8", but that's not really fair to spring that unannounced.

Here are the bands and songs, in no particular order (except one):
A Tribe Called Quest - "Dis Generation"
Jeff Buckley - "Grace" (and bullet dodged; I would have given "Hallelujah" a 1 on principle)
Linkin Park - "One More Light"
Judas Priest - "Cathedral Spires"
Soul Asylum - "Gullible's Travels"
Styx - "Red Storm"
Television - "venus"
The Cure - "10:15 Saturday Night"
Thin Lizzy - "Emerald"
Triumph - "Headed For Nowhere"

I'm most interested in the writeups as to why we all thought our band submissions were HOF worthy.  Here's mine:

Triumph.

The other Holy Triumvirate from Canada.  In the 80s, they were as big as (if not bigger than) Rush.  They were selling out arenas all over the place, and in '83 at the US Festival, they played AFTER Ozzy and Priest, only seceding the stage to The Scorps and Halen.  Check out some of those clips - reportedly 250,000-ish in attendance on the "metal" day.

Imagine if Geddy had left Rush in 84/85 after 9 albums (that was effectively what happened - Emmett left in late '88).  Would Rush have continued their meteoric rise in popularity if their last album had been Signals or Grace Under Pressure?  When you think about this band, Emmett was a more prolific axeman than Alex, and a much more accessible and fluid vocalist; Gil Moore was a Grade A drummer (and took lead vox on MANY songs), but certainly not in Peart's league; and Mike Levine was as solid a bass player as Geddy.  They certainly had more radio success than Rush did in the 80s.  So yeah... they are the "other" holy trinity in Canadian rock music, but could've been 1a and 1b with Rush if they had stayed together.

So, with millions in sales, plenty of Top 40 radio hits in the US, and more than enough talent across vocals, instrumentation, and writing, they should be worthy of the HOF - they were inducted into the Canadian Music HOF 10 years ago!

So, lets leave you with one of my favorite all-time guitar riffs, Headed for Nowhere.

Thin Lizzy

At the forefront of Ireland's music scene, Thin Lizzy, became an international sensation. Through their classic years, Thin Lizzy combined two Irishmen, an American, and a Scott, to help create their unique brand of Rock. Bassist/vocalist Phil Lynott was a master storyteller.

The harmonic twin guitars would help influence heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. Their 1976 hit, The Boys Are Back In Town, is one of the most recognizable classic rock tracks. Their songs have been covered by such major bands as Bon Jovi and Metallica.

From 1976's Jailbreak

Round 5: Song by the band you MOST think should be the very next inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (the reasonableness of your believe may - or may not - factor into the score!)

I took the bolded part to mean that. Apparently so did J Boy.

NO write up needed for you though. No one can compete with your IM Discog write-ups.

Nah, don't rate 1-10. Just rate as typical. It's funny when you set a theme, and then have to live with it... Sometimes it sounds good on paper. Me, I'd rate the tracks and then maybe a Bonus Point for worthiness/reasonableness.

My write up is lost in the ether, but as to whether or no the Cure belongs in the HOF shouldn't be a matter of debate. And they are far worthier than any other band on that list when it comes to impact to music and society, even if I don't particularly like them.

Triumph, Priest, Styx and Lizzy should be in as well. Linkin Park hasn't been around long enough (it has to be 25 years IIRC). As to the others, I'm not familiar with them enough to pass judgement.
