403 errors and blocked IP
« on: September 10, 2017, 05:16:20 PM »
This is a test to see if I can post on the forum without getting an error. I keep getting blocked when I attempt to reply to the Star Trek thread. A screen pops up saying that my IP has been blocked when I try to reply to the thread, and I when I shut down chrome and then tried to come back onto the site I would still get the error. I couldn't get back into the forum until I rebooted my PC.

I'm assuming that there's an issue on my end. If anyone could point me in the direction of a fix...

Sounds like an issue I've run into a few times. Your post likely involves some string of words that the forum won't allow. The one I found made no sense whatsoever. After a certain number of tries you get IP blocked. That typically goes away after a while. It's really annoying because there's no way of determining which is the offending phrase without the process of elimination, which requires repeated tries.

The only thing I can offer is that the same thing occurs with PMs, so if you have a post that won't go through, you can PM it to yourself as a test.

And here we are. Just got the third such error in a couple of months. In this case it was for posting this link, which I can post here but not in the P/R subforum. (Still can't).

Also, I did get IP blocked until I could convincingly pass myself off as human. If somebody actually wanted to find out what's going on checking Saratoga's firewall logs might provide some information.

Make that four times. For the record, spending 10 minutes typing out a thoughtful reply only to find that I can't post it pisses me off to no end.

Yeah... I've had that periodically as well - last time was about a month or so ago.  Didn't matter the device or anything.  Somehow, a string of text was being caught up in the the ISP's firewall.  I don't think it has anything to do with DTF, but the ISP

Glad i'm not the only one!

This happened to me twice a couple of weeks back, when i attempted to reply to the Rush thread on general music section. Replying to any other thread works just fine!

Anyone have any idea, what might be causing this?

There was a bug in the login form on some themes which was recently fixed. If you still get these errors, try clearing your cache/cookies and logging in again using this page instead:

No dice, mate. Logged out. Cleared DTF cookies and cache. Logged in. Still couldn't post a reply I'd typed up on Friday. Even tried switching to a different theme. Still no joy.

Nope. Can't PM it to you, either.
