Duran Duran Arena was probably my most played cassette for a long period of time, and I hated how it didn't have The Reflex. It was also the first time I recall my mom taking any interest in what I was listening to and how it could affect my character. Maybe she thought I would start wearing eyeliner.

Need Home's song then I can post results.

Also, I had an idea for a bonus round that I thought was interesting, but I didn't know if everyone was losing steam on this roulette with one round to go. Thoughts?

This round isn't related to music. *spoiler* I hesitate to go with it as I don't want to skew the end results, but it is a two-horse race at this point, so it might not matter.

Hey you haven't lost untill it's over of something  :P

Sorry man, it took me sometime to find a band I listen to with output in the 80's (besides acts you know like Queen, Pink Floyd etc) but I just realised there's this amazing psychedelic rock band who was active in this period. I'll send in a few minutes  :hat

It took you six weeks to find a song from the 80s?

kingshmegland: Fates Warning - The Ghosts Of Home
9
Dabbled in FW back when I was getting in to the genre and didn't see the appeal.  I started at the beginning, and John Arch was partially responsible for my lack of interest. I knew they got another vocalist down the road, but I didn't care enough about the music to care at that point. This is by far better than any FW I remember listening to. Did they get that much better this far in to their career?

This album took everyone by surprise with how good it is.  Ghosts of Home has become a top 5 FW song at least, and the new album is top 3.  Their Ray Alder era is a bit all over the place, but Theories of Flight is the best starting point.  Parallels is their classic but is a bit more commercial but is one of my, and a lot of others fav albums of all time.

Perhaps, but it's not even the best song on the album.  That's reserved for The Light and Shade of Things.  Seeing that live is easily my best concert moment this year so far.

kingshmegland:    Stone Fury - Break Down The Wall
9

What I would expect from a quality 80s rocker. Great 80s high vocals, without being screechy. Awesome chorus.

Elite:  Savatage - Gutter Ballet
9

I don't know how Savatage flew under my radar for so long. Cool 80s song without sounding too "80s." Cool soloing, guitar work sounded a little early Maiden to my ears. Nothing wrong there!

TAC:  Tesla - Cumin' Atcha Live
8

Read that they would open their concerts with this. Pretty kick ass sounding way to start a show!

Shadow Ninja 2.0:  The Moody Blues - The Voice
8

Note SN2.0's alternate pick was Tom Waits - Downtown Train. This was a great song. I was in to 70s Moody Blues, and had a greatest hits album that was mainly the 70s stuff but had a few later songs on it too. I liked those songs too, but not nearly as much as this one. Such a pleasant voice Justin Hayward has.

Stadler:  The Outfield - Every Time You Cry
7

I am sure this chorus got the ladies waving the warms and the dudes waving their lighters at the arenas. The verses weren't very inspiring though, and bring this one down a little.

Twosuitsluke:  King Diamond - Black Horsemen
7

My goodness did these vocals make my anus pucker! Great music without having memorable riffs. Tasty guitar solos. Not sure what to make of the vocals. They fit the song well, but I can't help hearing someone Dickinson doing the song more justice on the mic (but that could be said of most rock songs).

Sacul:  Talk Talk - Life's What You Make it
5

Standard 80s fare, I could see this being in a good movie soundtrack more so than being a good standalone song. Lyrics were a bit of a drag considering the message they were going for.

Jingle.boy:  Max Webster - Battle Scar
5

Jingle's first stumble! Is this crappy a Rush song? Why so repetitive?

Parama:  Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lenny
4

I can't tell if I've heard one SRV, or two, or all of them, they all sorta sound the same. I'm not really a blues guy.

Tomislav95: The Cure - Push
4

This song seemed really short. I started it up, went through some filing, and it was over before I felt like got in to it. Why is the intro so damn long? I feel like I have heard better Cure songs. This one isn't a dud, but not very inspiring.

home:  Gong - Flying Teapot
3

Never did any drugs, never got in to psychedelic music. Coincidence? Made me think of not as good Ummagumma at parts.

BONUS ROUND

The world is such a miserable place. And while music can cheer us all up, nothing can brighten a day like a good laugh. And for this round, making me laugh is exactly what I want you to do!

The rules for this round:
•   Send me a clip on Youtube – it must be available on youtube.
•   It can be anything: A movie/TV scene, stand-up comedy bit, videos of people falling down, etc…
•   Clips must be less than 3 minutes long. If you only want me to watch a segment of a clip, make note of the timestamp where you want me to start and stop viewing.

I will score each submission according to how much it makes me laugh. There is no blacklist. If it’s something I’ve seen a hundred times before, and it still makes me laugh, it will receive a high score.

Chris, glad you liked the Tesla song. It does indeed rock. They were a great band. A 70's band trapped in an 80's band's body.

Some of you are sending in Round 8: Epics songs. Don't let the Bonus Round interfere with that. I don't have a strict definition for epic, so define epic however you wish. I won't dismiss anything on the basis of it not meeting a standard of being "epic."

No length limit. I will say that while some of my favorite songs are 20+ minutes (Echoes by Floyd, 2112, A Change of Seasons), I can't think of any songs longer than those (~23 min) that I have any affinity for.
