The Architect seems to be getting an unfairly easy run so far.

But then again, that's mainly because of the very good song it is..

I think it is a very, very good song, but I don't put it in their top tier of tunes.  It would rank just outside of the top 10 for me.  As good as the song is, the 14 1/2 minutes after the first minute is almost a letdown.  One of the greatest opening minutes of any tune ever.

It's one of the best songs that I've ever heard. Each and every minute of it is perfection. The Initiate reprise and outro is incredible. To me this is Haken at their very best.

Maybe if it didn't have that drawn-out boring section in the middle I could actually consider it good. The main chorus is pretty nice.

The section brings it down for me. The opening sections are excellent, and as DoC says the Initiate reprise at the end is glorious. But the middle section doesn't work very well for me, probably the only bit of Affinity that I'm not keen on. As a result I place it toward the bottom of my Affinity rankings and maybe lower-mid table for all Haken songs.

The middle section provides great contrast. The bass lead to start it off is great.  And in my opinion, the section on it's own compares favourably to some of thr slower songs on the album. All in all, The Architect is the total package, and the band's best work to date.

The band has yet to surpass Celestial Elixir, but The Architect is a much, much more cohesive 'long song' or 'epic' and also far better than Visions and Crystallised. I think it would be in the lower half of my top 10 Haken songs.
