Cringeworthy Songs from Great Bands
« on: May 23, 2017, 10:27:36 AM »
Even our favorite bands of all time have laid and egg or two in their time. I thought it would be interesting to make a thread about this. The most talented bands out there might even write a bad song on purpose, who knows!?
 To name some,,
Rush - The Speed of Love
Dream Theater -  Repentance (though debatable)
Boston - I Had a Really Good Time
Yes - Big Generator ( the song )  the album is quite good.

Oasis - Little James.

Written by Liam no less. Later songs by Liam would be co-written by Gem Archer.

U2 - Please / Grace / One Step Closer / White As Snow.

The one dire boring song on each of their last few albums.

It's amazing how perfectionist they are and songs like these still make it on.

REM - Stand / Shiny Happy People

Repentance makes you cringe? I get that some people find it boring (I don't) but cringeworthy?

Prophets of War on the other hand.

I guess it doesn't make me cringe, but Repentance does absolutely nothing for me.  :-\

I love "Stand".

For me:

Genesis:  That's All    For the love of God, I hate that song.

Marillion:  Built In Bastard Radar; The Party (actually, any time Hogarth - who I like - slurs his 'esses' in order to sound more sensitive)

Yes:  Circus of Heaven; Arriving UFO

Haken - Earthrise
BTBAM - Croakies & Boatshoes (although I still like this, the last 15 or so seconds are just stupid)
Alter Bridge - My Champion
Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God
Porcupine Tree - Halo (while most of the songs I list I think everything about it is cringeworthy, with this one it's just the lyrics. the lyrics are so obnoxious that I had to list it anyway though)
Destrage - Blah Blah
Dream Theater - Our New World

also not sure if this counts cause it never got released but, probably one of the worst and most cringeworthy songs I heard in my entire life:

Metallica - Vulturus
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

Because some misguided people will say this, let's just get it out the way now. And I thoroughly do NOT endorse this view. I'm just making a protest at how wrong some of you are:

Dream Theater: Every song from The Astonishing.

Dream Theater - Constant Motion, Prophets of War
Rush - Dog Years, Neurotica

But the biggest one for me is....

Jethro Tull - Bungle in the Jungle

Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God

I get why it's listed, but I love that song.  It's just very different from what A7X are, but love it regardless.

I would say...

Iron Maiden - The Angel and the Gambler

I don't see Hash Pipe as cringeworthy.  That's an awesome song.

Not This Means War ?

What do you mean?  That song just sounds like Metallica, but it's not cringe worthy.

"Virtuality", yeah. I see what they were going for, and it's interesting to see that Neil was thinking about that stuff long before it was on most people's radar, but the actual lyrics are hilariously dated now.
The main riff is still great though.

Well it didn't have much competition on the album that spawned it but still.....

"MY LIFESTYLE, DETERMINES MY DEATH STYLE!"

Come on James, we all know you're better than that.

Also, I'd say Young Love is a pretty good song tbh

Young Love has that cringe guitar into that's also out of tune.
And dunno, I find the lyrics overall on that album pretty bad. (even though it's not a deciding factor for me)

My lifestyle Determines my Death style was a Kirk Hammett line.

You see the moment in SKOM where he reads it off his list of lyrics and everyone pretty much laughs.

Nah it's just a 13yo fanfic- tier written a bearded middle age man. The amount of cheese would embarrass Arjen and Disney - lines like "my muuuuusiiiic plaaaaayeeerrr" and "brother can you hear me?" make me more uncomfortable than any horror movie :lol
