WHAT THE FUCK
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Wow, way too young. I don't listen to a lot of his music, but he was a great musician, and I'll definitely listen to the Casino Royale theme (my favourite Bond theme) in his honour. RIP.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I loved his Bond theme.

Much better than the Madonna and Jack White ones.

This fucking hurts.  Like..  I was in tears when I read about it. I never got a chance to see Soundgarden,  and never will now.

Whaaat! Seriously WTF!

I was just reading about the new Soundgarden album, they were about to start recording.

R.I.P, if this is true. That is just way to early to go out. :sadpanda:

I am the Highway it's still my favorite song to listen when a journey is about to start. I didn't really follow his carrer closely but he had a great voice and it's such a tragedy to die at such a young age.  :-X
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Chris Cornell > Kurt Cobain.

I've been checking out a lot of grunge recently for no reason at all and i've discovered that most bands around the time were a heck of a lot better than Nirvana.

Nirvana only really had one really great album and a couple of ok ones. Also Kurt didn't look after his voice.

Butch Vig said that even if Kurt didn't die - there'd be no more Nirvana since he had no vocal technique - he literally screamed his voice out.

He could get like 3 takes out of him in one day before his voice was gone.

Burden In My Hand was on the radio this afternoon, and I was reminded of how incredibly controlled his voice was. Incredible singer, musicians, lyricist, etc..RIP Cornell

That's sad!

I've known Soundgarden since I first saw their Black Hole Sun video on MTV back in the 90s. I liked Audioslave alot too, btw I have few students playing Cochise on drums atm.
He had a unique voice and will be missed.

RIP

Black Hole Sun is about the only Soundgarden song I can think of off the top of my head - I pretty much zoned out during the 90's  :)

Sad to hear of any sudden death like this though - obviously an iconic voice for many and a loss that will be felt far and wide. RIP.

Besides The Smashing Pumpkins with their Holy Trinity in Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie....Soundgarden had one of the best ones of the 90's with Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, and Down on the Upside. I'm definitely loading up those albums on my phone with some Temple of the Dog and Audioslave

I was so shocked by this when I woke up this morning. 52 is so damn young.

Chris Cornell is up there as one of my very favorite singers of all time. From soundgarden, to temple of the dog to the incredible first audioslave album, he played such a huge role in the music that I listen to.

RIP

I remember guitar magazines eulogising Outshined due to its time signature when Soundgarden were first breaking into the mainstream, and I remember well the fuss Kerrang! (et-al) made of Cornell shaving his hair off... that was a really big deal to some people back then.

I was never a big fan Soundgarden fan (Superunknown made a great album for revision as it was a nice wall of sound that drowned out any distractions but didn't have too many songs that drew my attention away from the school work...), but oh boy did Cornell have a spectacular singing voice.

Sad, and quite shocking, news.

rest in peace.

I met him sort-of once (among hundreds of others at The Electric Fetus in Minneapolis on Record Store Day, 2009 or 2010, I forget).  I asked him if he knew who Kevin Gilbert was, he said "Yeah, so what?" lol.

I knew he was a friend, fan and big supporter of Jeff Buckley

His brother Peter has a voice like his actually, and once fronted the prog band Somnambulist.

Such a loss.  :( :( :(

Big Soundgarden fan, TOTD is awesome too. Euphoria Morning and Higher Truth are both very good solo albuns. I was lucky that i got to see Soundgarden Live in 2014.

RIP.

Now, hard as it is to say it, one might have expected Scott Weiland's death sooner or later, but this hit me as a complete surprise. I'm at a loss for words, really. After Layne (IMO) he was the greatest voice of an era and an amazing singer/songwriter.

He will be missed. RIP

I can't get my head around this, I really can't.  I'm listening to Down on the Upside right now and I just can't and don't want to believe it.

My cross over from whatever was on the radio as 11-12 year old, Down on the Upside was one of the early rock records that shifted my musical tastes into what it is today.  I think I remember seeing Pretty Noose on rage (Australian music video show) and I believe I ended up borrowing Down on the Upside from the library because I was intrigued.  I didn't want to give it back, it was one of those albums that turned me around and directed me to rock music.  I recorded it to a blank tape and wore it out until I think I eventually got a copy for XMas or something.  I know it's not rated as their best or heaviest but it captivated me.

I still love it and of course the other albums and the rest is history.  Such an iconic, amazing band with such a chemistry between them all.  His voice is so powerful, unique and wonderful to listen to.  Even his solo stuff is really great too.

Fell on Black Days.....  :'(

Indeed.  By far my fav song from Chris also.

I think Superunknown and Badmotorfinger convinced me to become more of a rock-oriented singer when I was pretty much floundering around in all kinds of styles.
The sheer power of his voice really connected with something within me. I did a cover of 'Spoonman' during a live gig along with some other songs and it just felt right for some reason.

Damn it, he will be sorely missed.

Detroit police are investigating the death as a possible suicide, according to The Associated Press. He was 52.
