Kansas cancel European tour
« on: May 12, 2017, 10:41:41 AM »
Night of the Prog released this info today (Kansas were the headliner on day 3):

Quote
KANSAS regretfully announces the cancellation of its 2017 European Tour. The cancellation is based on safety and security warnings issued by the United States government and various U.S. law enforcement agencies concerning Americans traveling in Europe this summer. KANSAS is extremely saddened that the band will not be able to perform for its European fans this year. (Kansas will post this tonight on their website and FB Site)

Incredible...  ???
Keep prog alive - see it live!

I know Trump has got a lot of people pissed, but seriously?  :lol

Sucks for those of you in Europe who were planning to see them. Bummer.

I feel like there has to be more to it than that... There must be dozens of bands from the US in Europe at any given time?

Yeah, this sounds like a very suspect reason.

I wonder if it's because of their name. Other bands could go unnoticed, but "Kansas" is a clear indication that the band is from America.

I don't think people who could write and record Song for America could possibly be that stupid. There's another explanation for this.

What?! I mean, yes, most coverage of the US isn't exactly positive over here due to mr. Trump, but eh, this really makes zero sense.

I think this is more due to potential terrorist threats at (large) concerts, but those are way more guarded than they ever were since France two years back. Every single day there are major artists playing all over Europe. But the wording implies American's specifically are in danger in EU.

The TACs are planning a trip to Europe (Ireland) this summer. Not sure what to think of this.

You'll be absolutely fine. Obviously the EU is a collection of a lot of very different countries, but I sincerely doubt Americans are suddenly unsafe in most of them.

Wtf, that makes zero sense.

Indeed it doesn't. I read the announcement on the NOTP Page as well, and thought wtf too. There are so many American bands and artists performing throughout Europe that this cannot be a legit reason at all (Dream Theater just wrapped up a massive EU tour for instance and there's without a doubt way bigger artists touring as well). There's no way Americans wouldn't be safe in Europe. That's actually insulting to Europe as a whole. WTF.

Exactly.

Maybe their ticket sales weren't going that well and this was just the easiest cop-out?

People are completely bashing them for this decision on the NOTP Facebook page.

Poor advance ticket sales is indeed what most people are suggesting.

Poor sales is the only feasible explanation atm. And they don't want to admit it, so they cover it with the "security" excuse. Don't they owe their fans the truth?

I was referring to the album, but Livgren wrote damn near the whole thing anyway. Was really just saying that their music suggests they're smart enough to not buy this (or try to sell it). The danger is actually spending 12 hours a day on a damn tour bus. That's a problem no matter what country you're in.

On that note, they actually ditched the tour bus years ago, at least for U.S. tours. They fly everywhere.

They're probably going off this:

https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings/Europe.html

They must be morons though for reading into that that Europe isn't a safe place.

Not only that, but Kansas flatter themselves if they think any terrorist would give a hoot about the band.

We did Paris/London three years ago. I never felt threatened.  Although we did stay at the Marriot Marble Arch, which was basically in the Little Iraq section of London.

We got off the subway at the Marble Arch stop. It was fine enough, but as we walked down the street towards our hotel, we were clearly in a middle eastern section. Guys outside of every doorway smoking hookahs. All of the shop lettering was in (not sure the term) Muslin letters. It was a pretty dense section of middle eastern influence.

Was their entire EU tour with Uriah Heep? Over here, their show was co-headlined with Uriah Heep. Can't imagine that band being happy about this to be honest, unless they have the same safety concerns.
