hell yeah

tbh sent you that track because it's pretty accessible jazz, with some emotional punch. Maybe too risky for a prelim entry but tbh wasn't really sure about the rest of the stuff I had lined up - should have saved some from the plug sessions :lol

for what it's worth the more intense moments of the sung parts are pretty nicely done. not really up my alley so much (if they were  i'd probably have rated it higher) but they worked for me at least somewhat.

i do sort of feel like our tastes don't overlap much anymore though but feel free to send me some other stuff if you want me to listen to it, i'm totally game for that i just won't score it

Yeah you seem to be pretty much into weird metal these days while I'm into whatever hipster shit crosses my way as of late :lol

But still got some cool stuff you may dig, maybe I'll wait until the EP round and send an unnoficial one with just a couple tunes if ye don't mind.

Yessss, I'm not eliminated :D glad you liked that. I'm not sure would you like rest of the album because it's very synth driven and some other songs have electronic music bits (it gets weird).
I may go with something different this round, seeing non-metal song got the best score but I'm not sure yet.

send me exclusively your worst songs and make me hate myself

i will be taking a break after round 5 as i did with my first roulette, and probably again after round 10 though that time mostly because people need time to put together EPs I'm sure

Reminded me of Radiohead first too, but also Oceansize a bit during the heavier part. The album is overall heavier on the soft parts (not very vocal-centered either from what I remember)
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

ffs :lol

For the record there's nothing about about djent in the opening post, but I don't consider Textures to be djent any way. I sent you the song because you stated you had strayed away from the 'progressive' and more to the 'metal'. I thought Textures would be a good fit. I can understand you not liking the vocals; as a matter of fact I'm not too fond of them either. Their new singer is better though. If it's any consolation, the band is breaking up at the end of this year :(
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

like if i'm being honest the vocals were the real dealbreaker for me with the song. i actually thought it was one of the better songs of the round first listen but those vocals reeeally got to me :s

and i associate them with djent because i'd looked into them earlier when i was still into djent & almost got their 2011 album at some point (but didn't)
and to be fair the song is def djenty to some extreme

ehh. it's not even that bad, definitely not on the same level as slint  :lol

Heyyy-ooooo

I am on a trajectory to win this thing!! So yeah, Crowbar was a poor choice in your last roulette but I think I have a better grasp of what you like now. I might be able to send today but I have just finished a 45 hour stint at work and I'm going to see Riverside tonight ( :metal) so I might struggle to send.

Nice to see I'm still in. I have a fairly good idea what kind of music you like, but it's all in the banned list, so I will have to send something else. :lol

Good thing is that I can't be eliminated now, time to start getting these 4/10 scores.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Sure, but I probably don't know any of them. Also, seeing how you scored in this round, I'm not sure it would be helpful. :lol

Sent my song for the next round, hopefully it doesn't get rejected.

To be honest, I thought Textures would get the job done of having me in the roulette. I didn't think it would score exceptionally high, but I didn't expect to be cut already. The rest of the bands I had in mind are not 'djent' at all.

I kind of worried about not having enough to send, since Parama's banned list pretty much overlaps with stuff I listen to as well, so I compiled a huge list of stuff beforehand. Too bad I can't use any of that now. Maybe I'll send an EP for the hell of it.

Cool stuff. I recalled you like Winter's Gate so I decided to go with a song of theirs that's more on the proggier side.

The growls on that album aren't as well produced as on the following two, and his delivery has also improved since. Also, the clean guitar bit starting around 6:50 is the same theme right until the end and isn't even the first time it comes up in the song.

I'll send in a minute.
Always too soon, always too late, always in between.

No, but pretty damn close.  My only saving grace is that it was a song by the FIFTH best known and best liked singer in the band.   :)

Round 1 First Impressions

The chuggy riff has plenty of groove & the drums play off it well. And the production is, well, the usual for the genre, but I think it’s at the level of quality to not detract from the song in any real way.

The way this song builds up and the way all its elements come in and out, build upon each other and then collapse again to make way for new ones, is really quite compelling.

I’m not huge on this at the start but it builds up nicely & has enough of a rock edge to it to appeal to my simple mindedness. And by the climax is it genuinely pretty great.

I dig all the little things going on during the bridge, even if it means they’re not really changing the core sound of the song dramatically for the bridge.

This is a bit all over the place but it’s pretty diverse about it, both some chuggy and technical riffs alongside some cleaner, atmospheric parts & it definitely keeps this from feeling the least bit dull.

There’s that weird contrast going throughout this entire song, where the riffs are rather aggressive & jagged but the chorus is really smooth and kind of atmospheric.

Instrumentally this does atmosphere well enough while still having a driving feel to it. I’m trying to find the right word to describe it and failing but it’d be a good word, if I could remember it.

The vibe of this song isn’t one I’d say I generally find myself liking and it sounds more like some soundtrack song for a childr- WHOA HEY THERE THAT GOT LOUD –en’s movie, but it’s a good vibe nonetheless.

I didn’t really have much to say about this at the start until it hit upon that cool, jagged and dissonant riff near the middle. That is a cool as heck riff & it completely changes the tone of the song in a good way.

I dig that the bass is mixed decently high in the mix on this one, unlike a similar song this round, but at the same time I wish it was playing something more interesting than it is.

I will say that I think this round is quite a bit better than the last round on average, at least 3 or 4 songs that could compete or top the best song of the prelim rounds  :corn
