woops forgot to update this earlier post
i gotta say, this might be the weakest round of the roulette. there's one song here i really, truly love & will get a great score, and the next few songs are at least solid, maybe high 7's, but there's a lot of meh or outright mediocre tracks this round. the weakest song came from someone currently in the top 5 too, which is what i meant when i said someone really blew it. the top 5 may also shift when i finish relistens but probably not too much. also don't have secondary scores yet so i don't know who's qualifying for the finals through that route yet, but it could be interesting  :corn

also it seems like y'all aren't doing any guessing who sent what

Tomahawk, sent by Tomislav?
Evergrey, sent by Evermind?

The baked and.. Land  :hat
Amends
Barren Earth

There's some chance I blew it, I sent a band that's mostly brass on impulse  :lol It's a pretty epic song tho, so shame on you if it gets a low score

Come to the concert man its almost sold out

The Naked and Famous - Laid Low (Bolsters)
Tomahawk - Point and Click can't be tomislav cause he sent a 17 minute blackmetal song :lol Nekov?
Motorhead by Stadler
Barren Earth - On Lonely Towers (Luoto)
The Ongoing Concept - Amends - uhh this sounds interesting :lol I think I enjoy it way more than Parama will. This could be any of Luke, home or LordCost to be honest, can I just guess all three of them? If not I'm going with Luke
Evermind - Hymns for the Broken (Piano Version) (Evergrey)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - K_a_
Downfall of Nur - The Golden Age (Tomislav)

So results when

Sidebar while we're waiting for Parama to eliminate me from the final EP round.   I'm thinking of hosting a roulette myself.   I know the rules/requirements are here for a reason, presumably time tested, but I've not been part of many roulettes, so help me out a little.  Assuming I did one, what are your thoughts if:
- I didn't have a "banned list", but you submitted something I was intimately familiar with at your peril?
- I did, say, 8 rounds, but each round was a genre or themed?  Too much work for you, the submitter?

I'm trying to avoid a roulette where you're guessing what I might like.  I know what I like, and for the most part, I seek out that which I want to hear (and generally avoid that which I don't).  I'd rather be surprised by something.  I'd rather let you show your creativity.   For example, I'm HUGE into Purple, I know everything that Blackmore has put out (including the Renaissance and a lot of his early session work) but I couldn't sing you an Ian Gillan tune if my life depended on it.   I don't want you trying to convince me that growls are great, or that Bob Dylan CAN sing, but if you think there might be an example of either that isn't the run-of-the-mill tropes from the genre, that'd be something you might take a chance on.

Any thoughts? Am I asking for trouble?

You'd just have the reject the song - the point of a roulette is discover new music, and a banned list give us an idea of what you dig :P

- I did, say, 8 rounds, but each round was a genre or themed?  Too much work for you, the submitter?
It depends on whether the theme or genre is too restrictive, but also on the players - if you had a "hard rock only" round I'd have nothing to send if I participated, for example. An idea I had for my future roulette, I was thinking of maybe having like 2 optional themes for every round and players could send tunes that fitted the theme they preferred.

Stadler, There's two reasons for a banned list. One gives the participant an idea of what you like, but maybe more importantly, it saves the time and trouble of sending and rejecting stuff you already know. Don't be fooled by the lightheartedness in these threads. Participants put a lot of thought and energy, often agonizing over what to send. Having a song rejected starts the cycle all over again.

As far as themed rounds, some people like them and some people don't. I wouldn't make them all themed. One Themed Round I did in my first one was a Savatage Round. I could never get into them, yet, everyone in my roulette was a big fan. So I asked them to convince me. It was a great way to get a crash course in a band.

Oh, and count me in for you roulette.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Yeah well, how the relistens are going?
only have round 9 left, a few people are getting a few extra fractions of points but i dunno how much it'll affect the overall rankings yet

edit: so i've started writeups for this round & the first three scores i've given out are as follows:
3/10
5.25/10
6.25/10

sometimes i loosely order them before starting writeups and this is one of those times (haven't done it for every round, only ones i was more confident about)
but suffice to say, i did not enjoy this round very much. there are like, three songs here that i got any real enjoyment out of and only one i really loved. really weak ending to the whole thing if i'm being honest. hopefully the EP round will be better

edit2:
six done now and the highest score is only a 6.75, and the next song i'm doing a writeup for is maaaaybe a 7 at best but i'm not even sure. gosh. thank god for that one really good song being the light at the end of the tunnel here, that's half of why i'm doing this writeup order this time, to give me some goddamn motivation to finish  :lol

Dibs on the 3/10!

I'm seriously pretty confident I screwed up. I did already put a list of songs together for an EP, but I bet you'll have to wait to hear them in a plug.dj session or something :p

I'm rather confident I didn't fuck up badly enough to get 3/10, probably not the 5.25 either. I wouldn't be surprised if I was the 6.25 though, given my other scores throughout this roulette.
