So what does everyone's desktop and screensavers look like? I'll upload mine later on. I have four computers to get to.  ;)

I wasn't even thinking phone desktops, but that's pretty damn cool. Is that a smurf?

I haven't had a desktop background since I got the new monitor (about a year and a half ago), and haven't had a screensaver in at least 15 years because they can mess up my rendering, and are also useless since computers can just turn the monitor off. I don't even have that feature on these days either, because that can also mess up my rendering. :lol My background used to be a cartoon of Mr T riding a unicorn with a rainbow in the background though, and it was amazing, but now it's just plain black.

I was gonna post a pic of my desktop, but it would just be a bunch of software icons and way too many folders open. :blob:

Those overly cluttered desktops make me twitch. Then I'm forced to slap the person when they take five minutes to find an icon. :lol

It's not cluttered, it's all of the programs I actually need to use regularly, and I have no problem finding them. ;)

I am not saying yours specifically. Just the ones I've seen where the person can never find what they're looking for.  "Those" was a broad term and you're not a broad. :neverusethis:

You mean the kind of people who literally can't find a file on their PC unless it's on their desktop, so every file is on their desktop? And everything they've ever installed has an icon on their desktop because they can't figure out how to open it any other way? :lol

This is my desktop. There are icons I could delete, but I'm not worried about it as long as I know where everything I need is. I'm for productivity over neatness.

I cropped out my taskbar, because that is a mess. :lol It's a metaphor for the ADHD mind in folder form.

That's really not bad at all. I work with people whose whole entire desktop is covered with their icons, but there's no rhyme or reason to it. When they go to find something it literally takes them five minutes. I teach them the key commands to open the search box. They find their file and I don't have to waste energy strangling them. It's a win-win.  ;)

I have an approximate system to my icons as you can probably see, but some stuff is better served being pinned to my start menu or task bar or used infrequently enough that I'll just search for it and it only takes a sec. Whatever works. If you take five minutes to find what you want, it's not working. When I start up my computer for the day, I can open everything I need quickly with no hunting around. That's one reason I also like no background, because it makes it clearer to see the icons and text.

I am a minimalist when it comes to my desktop. Always have been, always will be. Most of my junk is on my second monitor desktop as well as my temp monitoring and my streaming/photoshop/editing shit. But here is the wallpaper at least:

Like Blobby said, screensavers are ancient and useless in my book and I haven't had one for years. They're a nice nostalgic thought though.

For anyone wondering, I got the image from some awesome science blog in which a thick layer of algae washed up on a bed of rocks and when the tide receded and baked it, it turned into that dried, white spider-web looking entity.

Using a second monitor for the clutter? THAT'S CHEATING YOU SON OF A BITCH.

I love cool nature/sciencey images like that. The kind of stuff that gets posted in the cool/awesome pictures thread or whatever it was.

I wish I had the room for a second monitor, just to watch shit all day and pretend I can still work at the same time. I'll have to figure out a way some time and get a cheap-ass monitor for it.

My desktop is the opposite of that  :lol

It is kind of ordered, with games on the left, music-stuff on the right and other things in the middle. But yeah, this made me realise there's a lot I could move away from the desktop though...

Cool thread idea

I keep (almost) all of my school related stuff in the four folders on the top right, pdf books on the top left and the rest is pretty much in a random order. There's not a lot of icons though so I don't have a hard time finding anything.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

I don't like to have anything on my desktop. And My Computer, My Documents on the upper left and Recycle Bin on the lower right is how it was on my first computer on Windows XP so it's always like that :lol

What about dual boot?
I used to experiment with some Linux distros but unfortunately, I have ATI discrete graphics card which is not well supported so my laptop gets hot and it can be on battery for 50% less time than on Windows :-\
Good thing Windows 10 has Bash shell.

I was thinking about a dual boot, it would probably be a lot faster but a virtual machine was just a bit quicker and easier to install. I also really like that you can switch easily between windows and linux.  I might consider a dual boot for the next programming cours tho.

Those lightbulbs on your desktop are very asthetic btw  :tup

Using virtual machines ceases the need for dual boot, triple boot, or whatever. I have about ten different OSes in Virtual Box for various things. I have two laptops. One is running Ubuntu 17.04 and the other is running KDE Plasma Kali Linux. The Kali machine is for my "hacking" practice, so I have Virtual Box loaded with different OSes, and for CCIE studying.

I take panoramic shots on our vacations and use those for desktops. Bonus points if you know where this shot was taken.

Oh, and my taskbar auto hides.

I remember all the shit I used to get years ago for posting my desktop background. Because.. Natalie Portman :JayOctavarium:

I'll post my shit when I get home from work tonight.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
