any hope for an electronic edition?  Was the DT book ever released in an e-edition?

No, it hasn't been released electronically.

The Devin Townsend ebook was released a couple of weeks ago. I've been reading that one, but haven't finished it.

I signed up to be notified. I'd read on on PT. The band is, as far as I can tell, unfortunately dead. Be nice to have the whole story in one place. Such a great band.

Judging by the fact that it's unauthorized I doubt there are a lot of new interviews, but I'll get this nevertheless, because I want to learn more about the early days of PT.

here is an excerpt  :lol

Quote
Right, so now Infinity (1998).  Gawd . . . time to think about Infinity for a while, I guess.  I could write a book on this album itself over time.  However, there's no time like the present, so let's begin on this topic and get it over with here.

Maybe by demystifying it for this book, it will put a confusing part of my life in perspective for me.  It seemed like such a hugely important event at the time, and now, it really just seems like another album.  So fuck it.

Hi All!

I hope that you're all well - it's been a while...

OK. Just to clear up a few things here. Firstly, the link is now working! We had to drag the web guy out of bed, smack him around the head a few times, but he's solved the problem.

The book isn't authorised by the band. I did approach Steven, but as you might suspect, he didn't have any interest in anything PT related. So he hasn't contributed directly to it. I have however interviewed over 40 people to make sure I got the whole story of the band, which I think I achieved. Obviously over the years, I have spoken to members of the band so some of those interviews appear in the book too. I have also spoken to all the past members of the band, including some that you won't have even know existed! So yes, for those of you interested, I hope you enjoy reading it.

Cheers
Rich

As I alluded to on Facebook, it's a shame that Steven had no interest in this. I fully expect for Rich to do a great job with what he's given, but without Steven at least submitting to interviews I feel like no matter how good it is it will never be quite as amazing as it has the potential to be. Looking forward to the read.

When I saw the thread title, my first thought seriously was "really, Steven was interested in doing this? That seems oddly out of character". :lol

Nice! Definitely cool. I'm torn on buying it but it's still very neat. Yeah, not surprising at all Wilson didn't want anything to do with it, and quite frankly I can't blame him considering the onslaught of "this means a comeback!" comments he'd get or questions over analyzing it if he did.

The reason I thought it might be possible, is because he could spend a few hours on interviews, authorize it, and boom, close the chapter on Porcupine Tree. Put it right out in the book this is the story and there is no more. I think a book like that would have been a fitting end, if an official end has to come.

Well, to be fair, Porcupine Tree has been such a substential part of his life that he can't really avoid it and the way he seems to want to avoid anything related to Porcupine Tree at this point seems weird and, frankly, rather childish. The fans of Porcupine Tree still deserve some sort of closure, as far as I'm concerned. Right, I get it, the band doesn't exist anymore, but the way it went down was downright weird and dissatisfying. I personally don't get why Steven Wilson would not want to work on a book that supposedly describes a HUGE period of his own life.

I thought Lifting Shadows was an amazing read. I'll probably get this one as well, as soon as it's up for order :)

I think SW doesn't want a book on PT because he doesn't want a book about his life. He is a very reclusive guy, and this kinda prying into his personal life (how could you not delve into SW's life for a book like this) will certainly not be his thing.

Well, yes there is detail on his background but I certainly haven't covered anything about his "private life", because firstly who cares and secondly, I'm not a tabloid journalist and wouldn't do that. It is a shame he passed but who can blame him? His career has taken off in such a big way that I suspect to him, PT is ancient history
