Does anyone on DTF listen to At the Drive-In?
« on: September 04, 2016, 05:39:18 AM »
I'm interested in the band and wondering what's a good album to start with, since I know next to nothing about them. Thanks!

Also, if someone feels compelled to do so, feel free to start an official artist thread.

I'm only a casual listener and got into them through (surprise surprise) TMV. But no doubt about it, start with Relationship of Command, that's their best album hands down.

I think they're a bit too extreme at times for my tastes but it's good stuff if you're into post-hardcore.

I've never been able to get into At the Drive-In in the past despite being a huge fan of The Mars Volta. I am loving their new album that came out on Friday. I've listened to it twice so far and it's up there for my favorite album of the year so far.

I've only heard it once but it's really solid. This album helped me gain a better appreciation for Relationship of Command as well, pretty nice. Will put the new one on regular rotation soon. AOTY is gonna be tough since my top 3 is really hard to crack (probably the new Vangough, Ulver and Soen albums as of now), but it's one of the better 2017 albums I've heard so far for sure.

I discovered Relationship Of Command more than 10 years ago before TMV, I don't remember how. I tried to listen to their previous albums a long time ago but I didn't like them. Start from Relationship Of Command  that is really good. Even the b sides of that period are great, like Catacombs, Extracurricular and Incetardis.
