Because the debut would win in a rout, I am excluding it.

Of these six, I have to go with Fair Warning.  31 minutes of hard rocking greatness. :metal :metal

This is tough between II and 1984.  1984 has the hits which I really love from VH, but II has some really good songs.  I mean they are all good including the new album.  I think Diver Down is the one I can immediately say I wouldn't vote for though.

Women and Children First. Romeo Delight is the greatest VH song that nobody talks about.

I've never quite gotten the love for II.  It's a solid album, but I think most of the other early Roth-era albums blow it out of the water, except for of course Diver Down.

1984 is easy for some to overrate because of all of the hits, but those hits are all great, and the deep cuts are all good as well.

They played both at the last concert I saw them in 2015.  Both are great songs and while neither were hits, I think both are generally liked by VH fans.

I'm a bigger fan of Romeo Delight though

I'm a big WACF guy. Not only that, Loss Of Control fucking RIPS. It's a bit goofy in parts, but that is one ferocious track.

And the great track no one talks about is In A Simple Rhyme. I freaking LOVE that song.

I've always been disappointed in that song because the girl that was prom queen when I was in school never ended up in porn. And considering how much porn I've viewed throughout the years, I would know for certain!!!

I can't get on board with the Loss of Control love.  The "loss of control" parts are a bit too goofy and suck the energy out of what is otherwise definitely a ripping tune.  I do love Fools, In a Simple Rhyme and Could This Be Magic?, as far as deep cuts go, on that album.

Today in my travels I came across a black metal band called Devil Lee Rot   :lol

As far as the VH albums go that's like asking (if I had more than one) who my favourite child is.   I voted 1984 as I think it is often under rated due to the singles being a bit poppy.

I actually voted ADKOT, but it's a very tough decision. 1984 was one of the first albums I ever bought, so it has a lot of sentimental appeal to me (plus Top Jimmy is just the coolest song they ever recorded), but ADKOT is even more sentimental. It was the first album that came out while I was a fan, and I saw them on the tour for the album, it was only the second show I had ever been to, and it's still one of my favorite shows I've seen. Plus I just think it's a really strong album with a lot of variety. It took me a while to come around to a couple songs, like Big River and Beats Workin, but I really came to love the whole album. And I always thought it was unfair how people complained about so many of the songs being reworked old demos.

Honeybabysweetiedoll is pretty much a not-much-to-it song, built around a massive guitar riff, but what a riff it is. :metal

Overall, I came around to liking ADKOT quite a bit, although I still think it is back loaded (the handful of songs I don't care for are all early in the running order).

I am not sure I agree that 1984's hits are all poppy.  Okay, Jump is, big time, but the rest I don't think really are.  Panama and Hot for Teacher are both major guitar rockers, and while some would say I'll Wait is poppy because it is keyboard-driven, I would submit that a song released in 1984 that has a minute long intro is certainly not poppy. ;)

I was thinking more of the first two singles (Jump and I'll Wait) and was also referring more to a reason I've heard quoted rather than my own thoughts.............even though that wasn't clear.  You could easily argue that Dance The Night Away is more pop than "I'll Wait".

I hate Loss of Control. Possibly my least favorite Roth tune. Nothing redeemable there to my ears. Also very meh on Fools and as far as singles go Everybody Wants Some was never a favorite. I do dig the back half of that album though. In A Simply Rhyme is awesome.

I was meh on ADKOT at first but I warmed up to it after awhile. Roth's voice was the major hurdle, but Eddie is playing so great. His tone is great on that album. Also revisiting old demos was a genius idea IMO. How a song like She's The Woman never made it on an album back in the day (especially when the albums were so short) will never make sense to me.

Even including the first album, my choice would still be 1984.

Fair Warning  :metal :metal :metal

but they are all great (and they all have some filler material on them)

My complete ranking would probably look like this:

VH
Fair Warning
1984
A Different Kind Of Truth
Women And Children First
II
Diver Down
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Completely agree with all of this. I'll Wait is a very dark song if you think about the lyrics. Kind of in the same vein as Every Breath You Take from The Police.

I went with 1984 because it has several of my all time favourite VH songs and generally kicks ass, but Fair Warning is an equally good choice for its consistency and heavier sound. VH II would also be very close, and now that I think about it, ADKOT would too.
WACF however I could do without entirely, and Diver Down only has a couple of tracks to redeem it.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Nah, I couldn't do without Cradle Will Rock, Take Your Whiskey Home, In A Simple Rhyme, even Could This Be Magic and Romeo Delight are good, enjoyable tunes. But I could do without Loss Of Control, Fools and Everybody Wants Some.

Favorite Van Halen song ever.   No shit.

I'm not sure I could do a list.   And if I did, it would be with the caveat that the spaces in between are LIKETHIS.

Maybe:
Fair Warning
1984
I
ADKOT
Diver Down  (I actually LOVE this album, but it's just too short and too spotty)
Women And Children First (even with the greatest VH song ever)
II

This is tough for me.  Van Halen I was the first hard rock album I ever bought, and I loved it.  But the band kind of lost me after that.  I bought every album, but nothing clicked.  I always felt like I wanted to like them, but just couldn't find anything to latch onto, and I moved on to other bands like Ozzy, Def Leppard, Scorpions, and so on.  1984 was the first album after that to really hold my attention.

1984 is easy for some to overrate because of all of the hits, but those hits are all great, and the deep cuts are all good as well.

Yeah, exactly.  And this far down the road from that album, I can't even remember the deep cuts.  But the hits are enough for me to choose that album in this poll.

And continuing with my thoughts from the first paragraph, what really re-ignited my interest in the band was 5150.  I felt that Sammy really took the band to another level.  5150 was perfect for me, because I felt the band really upped their songwriting game on all fronts.  The rockers REALLY ROCKED, and the pop stuff really had substance to it.  And Sammy could carry it all off without it sounding like a schtik.  I say this not to go off topic and get into a Dave/Sammy debate, but merely to say that this is a difficult poll because, as much as I loved the first album as both a solid album in and of itself AND as my "gateway" into hard rock, the Roth era of the band REALLY lost me as a fan after that.
