Orchid - Morningrise (Akerfeldt, Lindgren, Nordin, De Farfalla) - 5
My Arms Your Hearse (Akerfeldt, Lindgren, Lopez) - 6
Ghost Reveries (Akerfeldt, Lindgren, Lopez, Mendez, Wiberg) - 1
Watershed - Heritage (Akerfeldt, Åkesson, Wiberg, Mendez, Axenrot) - 1
Pale Communion - Sorceress (Akerfeldt, Åkesson, Svalberg, Mendez, Axenrot) - 3

I'm so sorry guys, especially you Elite. I totally forgot to take away one from Watershed and add to My Arms Your Hearse. Disregard the other poll, this is the correct one. Thanks! Now that My Arms is gone, I will join the PC-Sorceress route as I really don't think the piano or organ is really that fluid to me.

Orchid - Morningrise
Yup. DeFarfalla was a skilled bassist, but maybe not the best fit for Opeth.

Pale Communion by far.

But why? Because you don't like the music?

The band is better than ever musically and stage performance wise.

It must be voted based on the music. How many people saw live concerts of the first line-up of Opeth, playing Orchid and Morningrise? I don't think anybody here did. So how can you compare the musicians? Based on the notes they played on the record? No..

I disagree about the band being better than ever playing live. They completely lost energy and intensity. Michael's growls are nothing in comparison to what he used to do. They barely move, they barely headbang or whatever. If you watch bootleg videos of what they used to do in 1998 to 2003, you will know what I am talking about. You can also check the heavy set of Lamentations. In my opinion they have never played Deliverance or Master's Apprentices or whatever in a better way.

Mikael's singing did get much better, but Opeth for me is 80% heaviness/growls and 20% clean vocals/acoustic.

"Better than ever musically" is relative. It's an opinion. I've listened to them for a very long time and I don't think their newer music is better. I prefer the older Opeth albums, especially My Arms Your Hearse and Orchid. I've listened to bands like Opeth and Anathema since their beginning. Anathema's newer music is far and away better to me but I don't get that same enjoyment listening to newer Opeth.
