Part 1 just has some really bad visuals with Arnold at times, but it's solid beyond that.

I was never a huge fan of the first Terminator, but I like the concept. The second one is great though.

As much as I loved the first Avatar :chino: - I'm just not that excited about four more.

I'll obviously go and see #2 and if I like that one then i'll go back but I don't see how they can sustain interest over 4 more movies unless it's like an Expanded Universe type deal.

Jake & Neytiri for 4 more movies fighting humans will get old real fast.

Here Chino, a small taste of T2. This is the opening sequence

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmf8kbIaC58

I was pretty young when I saw it and it was one of the defining films of my life. Loved it ever since.

Despite the similar premise, I consider them quite different films. And T1 obviously doesn't have the budget of T2, although I think they did a great job with what they had.
I actually saw T2 many times before ever seeing the first one.

I like T2.  But making the T800 the good guy was kind off playing to Arnie's blockbuster status.  Also there was some pretty awful comedy moments in that film.   The first film is just plain nasty and gritty, the shooting up of the police station is the best sequence of the franchise.

Why I love T1 so much is that what it brings to the table is a whole different tone than T2. Judgement day is kind of action/sci fi, where as T1 has a horror aspect to it. Its very dark and brutal.

I also like that its just a regular human vs. a terminator. None of the other films have that dynamic. T1 also has Michael Biehn who I love watching on screen.

I think Genisys was better than Salvation at least.

It at least tried to get the tone of the first two. Salvation was a mess.

That's an incorrect assumption. The underlying conflict with the humans will not go away, but just like the relationship between Harry Potter and Voldemort, it won't be the only thing the movie will focus on. Also, we're getting introduced to the family Jake and Neytiri create, pretty early on from what I've read. The rest of the story will be about their family, not just Jake and Neytiri's relationship and their conflict with humans.

I was up for two more films not 4.

It might be ok if 2 - 4 are like a new trilogy and 4 is a prequel to the first one. . .

The 2009 is going to be the prologue and the next 4 will be the 'actual story'. I hope we get some flashbacks to some early events though. I'd love to see the floating mountains mining accident.

T2 is probably my favorite, but I'm throwing a vote to The Abyss for not deserving to be so far behind.

I want to go with True Lies, as others have said it's a perfect blend of action and comedy along with some spectacular special effects, but it's 30 minutes too long and the middle plot with JLC doesn't really work. I watched it Sunday in tribute to Bill Paxton, and it's great but not perfect.

And props to The Abyss, where the lives of his cast were less important to him than his film. It just never really clicked for me, though. In fact, The Making of the Abyss is better than the movie itself.

I therefore have to go with T2. It's such a damn fine bit of film-making. Arnie as the surrogate father to the kid gets way too cheesy, but damn, everything else is spectacular.

None of the T squeals did anything for me (although the pretty blond Terminator certainly did).

I haven't seen all of these, but of the ones I have, True Lies is the best.  Perfect blend of drama, action and comedy, and I think the pacing is immaculate.

T2 is good, but I don't get the "OMG, it's so amazing" opinions.  It's a good, fun flick. No more, no less, IMO.

Titanic is pretty outstanding despite the two leads saying each others' names 384 times. :lol :lol

I like Abyss & Titanic especially since I love seeing enormous amounts of water where it's not supposed to be.

i.e. flowing through a ship.

I liked The Day After Tomorrow for that scene where New York gets flooded and a massive ship just floats down the street  :eek

Plus I love underwater movies as I explained above.

They're researching on a cliff underwater above some sort of chasm like the Marianas Trench. It's really tense and has some awesome moments.

I found Alien completely insufferable so I never bothered with any of the sequels.

It's the only way it's any good. The theatrical release didn't really work. I honestly never thought it was all that great of a film, but the effort that went into making it is simply astonishing.

I just noticed that Terminator 2 is being re-released later this year in 3D. Perfect chance for Chino to finally see James Cameron's best movie on the big screen. :tup

If they're also showing it in 2D, I'm going. Hell, I might even endure it in 3D just to see it at a cinema for the first time.

If James Cameron is managing the post-production conversion to 3D, it'll probably be awesome. I'm usually very against post-production conversion, but Cameron did a fantastic job converting Titanic to 3D. I'm sure he'd apply the same standards to T2.

From a bit of searching, it seems like it should be at least as good a conversion as Titanic.

I like Abyss & Titanic especially since I love seeing enormous amounts of water where it's not supposed to be.

Fun Fact;

When Robert Ballard found the Titanic, one of the first big mysteries to emerge was that the Grand Staircase was missing. Even though it was made of wood, rotting away didn't make sense since there was still plenty of wood on the ship that looked untouched (pianos and such). We had no clue what happened to this gigantic work of art.

James Cameron built the Titanic set as close to spec as possible. When they shot the scene where the staircase flooded, all hell broke loose. The rushing water and pressure difference, combined with the buoyancy of the staircase, caused the structure to break away from the room and float upwards. No one expected this, not the actors, the film crew, Cameron, or Titanic experts. There was a legitimate moment of panic all over the set. Based on what happened on Cameron's Titanic set, expert now believe the staircase ended up getting lifted out of the glass dome above as it sunk.

Movies are released on a particular day of the week though, so at least this way you could watch it on August 29th. That's definitely why they chose that date though. Closest they could get.
