One day, probably in the not too distant future, JP is going to see old pics of himself with that beard and wonder, "What in the hell was I thinking?"  :lol

You know, JP totally sounds like JR in that interview. Like, voice-wise.

I didn't know Petrucci was such a big Iron Maiden fan back in the day. That's cool.

The beard is cool but the dyed, thinning, old-man hair isn't. But whatever :metal

They've been pretty up front about their love for Iron Maiden from Day 1.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I always heard Petrucci mention Steve Morse Rush & Yes but now that I think about it, I recall in I Can Remember When one of the guys saying Myung got them into Maiden. I think it was Petrucci. I wish that documentary was still on YouTube.

When DT first broke and Pull Me Under was getting played all over the radio and MTV, I remember a few friends we worked with at the time saying how much they sounded like Iron Maiden, especially in regards to the guitar sound.

I'm surprised you guys are surprised. They covered so much IM over the years, including the entire TNOTB, it's to be assumed that JP is a big IM fan.

Indeed. I just read it somewhere that if you like and look up to someone, you'll eventually pick up their mannerisms and start talking like them. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"-style.

Sycsa is perhaps the most brilliant and insightful man I have ever encountered.

Also on more than one occasion they've described their music as Yes meets Maiden (or Metallica, they seem interchangeable here). I'd say Iron Maiden is in the top 3 biggest DT influences.

I have tried many times But I just cannot enjoy Iron maiden so i wouldn't hear any IM in their music.

Metallica is all over it though. Train of Thought is like a prog Master Of Puppets. As I Am is almost Enter Sandman ( at least structurally - the main riff is very reminiscent too ).

It has an instrumental too.

Plus Parts of This Dying Soul sound like Blackened and Constant Motion is very Metallica.

Yeah people like JP are a pleasure to listen to in interviews.

Unlike those bands who only big themselves up and say stuff like " out next album will be the heaviest Sh*t you ever heard and you'll sh*t your pants instantly "

This is the first time I've listened to a JP interview in quite some time. Likely more than a decade. He does a really good job answering the questions. Really good interviewee. Particularly when the interviewer is obviously not a native English speaker (and he also does a really good job as well).
