That's a hell of an intro... And I don't see anything wrong with it don't following the common place of every section always being "connected" to anything else.. This is a prog band after all.. ;)

you can't excuse sloppy songwriting by just going "but it's prog"

the best prog songs would tie things together somehow. there'd be a better transition. and as far as i can recall it's not a melody that reappears anywhere else in the song anyways. which would actually make a little bit of sense

i dunno i just really dislike the song tbh
