- Vote Like The Wind ! v. plaid shirts ho !
« on: February 08, 2017, 05:07:12 PM »
I was just showering and had my favourite tracks playlist going and it has some FNM and some Soundgarden so I thought of this poll.

I really enjoy Pearl Jam up til and including Yield. After that they lost me a bit. Self Titled was ok but I didn't check out much after that...

I need to hear a lot more Soundgarden. I've actually never heard all of SUPERUNKNOWN or Bad Motor Finger. I'll do them both soon.

Loved Nirvana up until Kurt's death then I got bored of listening to them pretty quick once Foo Fighters came along. They were much more my cup of tea.

Faith No More have some great stuff. I'm not into Introduce Yourself and i've not heard much of Angel Dust but I loved " Album of The Year " and some of

Mike Patton's side stuff like Fantomas and Peeping Tom etc... Some of which is alright.

Finally i've barely heard any Alice In Chains bar " Black Gives Way To Blue " which i remember enjoying. I do like " Would " and " Angry Chair " and a couple of others.

Which is THE classic Alice in Chains album I should check out ?

:)

Is that an Alice In Chains album or do you need to see Sigmund Freud ?

Looked up Dirt on Deezer and Them Bones is a great song too if a little wonky in the mixing.

The classic Alice in Chains album you need to check out is Dirt. It's great and probably my favourite record out of what I've heard of these five bands. Angel Dust by Faith no More is pretty cool as well, though.
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

Mother Love Bone

This.

I voted Soundgarden though. Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are almost perfect albums that I've listened to relentlessly since I got into Soundgarden a year or two ago. Their whole catalogue is just really interesting though and each release has at least one song that I would count as one of my favorite SG songs (still haven't listened to King Animal though)

With Pearl Jam, I love ten, and I've recently really come around on Vs, but I just wish they had continued on in that direction.

Alice in Chains are an all around great band, Facelift is probably my favorite full length, though I still haven't listened to the self-titled album or much of their reunion material.

Not a Nirvana fan at all, and I've never really listened to much FNM, what I've heard is solid though, I should give them a shot.

Album of The Year is a great Faith No More album.

Check out " Ashes to Ashes " at least from that album. DAT chorus...

Also - i'm the weirdo that prefers Vitalogy and No Code to VS - which never clicked for me...

I love TEN though. And Yield has some nice songs on.

I voted Pearl Jam, but really love Soundgarden and Faith No More.

Anthem of the Year is a good one, but King For A Day is my fav.

From Soundgarden, lots of good stuff, but I always had a soft spot for Down on the Upside for some reason.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Dirt is the essential AIC album, but I'm a little more into Facelift.

I love Facelift as well, but Dirt is pretty much flawless. They definitely have different personalities, so it just depends what mood you're in.

I have come to the conclusion - not really recently but moreseo recently - that Nirvana were hugely over rated and Nevermind was their one classic.

Bleach was par for the course at the time and In Utero was EHhhhhhhhh.

If it wasn't for Nevermind ( which admittedly is a great album - thanks to Butch Vig ) - they'd just be another Seattle grunge band.

There were far better bands around at the time imo...

I even prefer The Foo Fighters. At least the first 3 albums and Wasting Light - the rest I can leave.

Of this group of bands, Alice In Chains by miles and miles.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

This x10.

Dirt and Alice in Chains are 2 great albums.  Sap and Jar of Flies are 2 great EPs.

Butch Vig said that even if Kurt didn't die - Nirvana wouldn't have lasted much longer as Kurt literally had zero singing technique.

He would literally just scream his balls off into the mic.

They would only get 3 usable takes out of him every day before his voice was fucked.

That was a decent Hole album but after that they went too shiny sounding.

I have to mention L7 too. Pretend That You're Dead is a grunge ANTHEM and the album Bricks Are heavy is pretty good too.

This era of music makes me want to punch myself in the ear over and over and over.  That said, of the bands you listed, I'd easily take Soundgarden over all the others.

I've always liked Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. I never really got into the other bands listed out here.
