Here we go, the band's 8th album, one that seems to be pretty popular and well-liked, but also contains quite a variety of song styles and feels throughout, capped off with the self-titled epic at the end!

Same here. I've always considered it extremely generic melodically. Not the mention that this is one of the very few instances in Dream Theater discography where the instrumental section REALLY sounds tacked on. They could have made it a five minutes songs, and although it would still be average at best, it would at least seem consistent.

I agree with the tacked on instrumental sections, in this era of the band (Train of Thought to Systematic Chaos) not only for Sacrificed Sons but for many other songs I feel the instrumental sections were made in LTE jam mode and then pasted into the song.

It's almost ironic how Endless Sacrifice on ToT gets derailed by a long section with a useless circus break, and Stream of Consciousness, which was an instrumental with no obligation whatsover to any kind of lyrics, has a main riff and stays "in mood" for the entire song.

It's a combination of their best instrumental section (imo) and an amazing chorus. JLB shines on this song, especially in the verses.

Agreed. To me, SS is quintessential Dream Theater... and one of my absolute favorites.
