I'll admit it, I'm not feeling that song. It's the only one on the album that I'm tempted to skip. It's just too similar to being in a crowd of white Americans trying to clap a beat...and failing.

For the verse, just count 1-2-3-4 (the snare)-hey!-1-2-3-4-hey! . You'll get the hang of it.

For the fast part, it's a fast 1-and-2-and-3-1-and-2-and-3. That's a bit tricky.

For the fast transitions, don't count.  :lol

Just bought it on iTunes based on the 1:30 samples. It sounds way more original than 90% of prog metal albums these days.

I agree, this album was a very nice surprise to me. Hope this becomes a permanent band for the 4 of them.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

Finally got around to hearing this (it's on google play) and it's awesome! Love the vocals. The playing is stellar. Way better than SOA, no doubt.

I loved the vocals too! When it was first announced, and they played some song samples, I wasn't too sure Casali's vocals were going to work for this band, but I'm glad he proved me wrong, he does a great job throughout the album :metal

So I have to say that..... this is a great album! When I heard It Begins month ago I was like... meehhhh.... but it works great on an album. Music is very fresh, complex but songs are not too long which I think works fine here. It's that kind of album which, when You are starting to listen to - You know that You will not be bored :) I love it, 9/10.

Great album, kind of a more accessible Planet X with very good vocals and more modern keyboards, sometimes reminding me the last 2 JLB albums. The only relative flaw on the album, at least for my taste, is that the pace of the songs are very similar and mid tempo. I would love to see some faster songs on it. But I guess it has to do with Donati's drumming style, because it's similar to another albums that I've heard where he's involved in the compositions.

So is there any chance of these guys touring for the album? They strike me as an internet band.

I would want to see how Casali is managing to sing and play along to those tunes...very complicated pieces out there and even more complicated when You have to sing to it...

I'm just gonna say 1 thing about this album:  :metal

On a more serious note, it's been a while since a prog metal album from a band I didn't know got me interested as this.

You're good. It's not blowing me away either but I find it to be very interesting. I think like emtee here, there were a lot of people that were expecting SOA to sound like this and since they were disappointed with that one, they're now overcompensating with this one  ;)

The appeal to me really is that it strikes the balance between accessibility and complexity. Those vocal melodies, they're very catchy. Sometimes even poppish. But it's still undeniably prog in its technicality.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I actually wasn't expecting to like the Icefish album too much, but I was gladly wrong and this is now my album of the year, not because of me not liking the SOA album, but because this album is AMAZING! :metal

I'm really impressed with this record.  It could have been a wank-fest, but the focus on songwriting and restraint is really refreshing. It's also nice to see a drummer being so involved in the writing process. :metal
