By two votes, the band's 10th album and last with Mike Portnoy is now out. Not far behind it was FII, and behind that was SC, two albums I thought would've gathered more votes by this time, if not already be out. I think I'll go with FII once again this time, which I am sure it'll be out in this round considering how close it was last round.

Also, I will be posting the Dream Theater Survivor 2017 home thread tonight, posting the Album Formats and how I will lay everything out leading up to the Finals, so please keep an eye out for that!

A fun album to listen to, but for me, it's quite inconsistent. But ITPOE for the win!!!

Iirc correctly, you said that your favorite off your albums is Repentance? What puts that over ITPOE??

You do recall correctly! :)

Repentance has a heart and truly grounded sense of emotion that very few DT songs have. It has an intent and purpose, whereby the band knew exactly what the song is about as they wrote it, which is usually not the case of their songs since they come up with lyrics and ideas well after the song is written musically. It has new textures and sounds for DT and they don't ever feel the need to show off.

With ITPOE....I dunno, I just don't connect with it at all. First bit is a little fun, but the lyrics just throw me off completely, and much of the music is just typical DT prog wanking. At some point I stopped being impressed with how many time signatures they could do while cramming in a ton of notes per unison. It just stopped mattering. On ITPOE, their focus was crazy DT prog which doesn't do much for me, especially at that stage of their career, while Repentance is the antithesis of that.

The only part of Repentance I don't like is the weird voice modulator Portnoy had. If he had just spoken in his regular voice, the song would be in my top 3 DT songs.

Systematic chaos, easily. It's an album where my favorite song is the simplest one, Forsaken, and that should never happen with a DT album
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Thank makes sense. Yeah, Repentance is either number 2 or 3 and it alternates with Ministry. It is just too dang unique and haunting.
