TABOO - on FX
« on: November 29, 2016, 12:18:45 PM »
Anyone else seen this advertised? It looks like it's going to be awesome!! Tom Hardy is a great actor and the trailer shows that there are many well knows actors/actresses that are sprinkled throughout the cast.

Yep.  Looks fantastic.

I saw some ads for it and it definitely looked interesting. I'll check it out when I finally get cable in my house.

Definitely couldn't help but think of his character in Peaky Blinders when I saw the advertisements. Looks interesting.

Caught the premier last night. I must say, this looks to be very good! I hope the rest of the episodes maintain the quality of the first. :tup My only complaint is that some of the dialogue is so soft and a lot of whispering going on. I had to crank the volume waaaaaay up and replay some of those lines as they are important to the plot. Other than that, can't wait until next ep.

Finally caught the premiere and thought it was fantastic. Very excited for the rest of this show.

My only complaint is that while it is overall exceptionally written, there are small small bursts here and there with some really clunky exposition. Other than that though, great television.

Indeed, second episode was great.

Spoilers:

I think it's pretty safe to assume that he and his sister were lovers back in the day and that kid he went and saw and paid the man for watching over him is his and his sisters kid.

I was contemplating doing some low level research to see if this show is loosely based at all on actual historical people and events? It seems so legit....I'm curious as to if they've kept close to actual history or not.

That sounds pretty plausible to me, you're probably right.

I think I read somewhere that this character was created by Tom Hardy and his father or something. But yeah it's all seems like history, so they might have fused it with some actual events and/or people.

I mean.....do we just continue to post how awesome this show is after each episode? Will that just get old? It just keeps getting better and better.

Ok, I'm in! I agree that each episode is better as the story begins to make more sense. I almost wish this was on Netflix or something as I just can't wait a week for the next. :corn

Finally caught up to date on this show.

Holy crap, the writing, acting, and production values are incredible.  Easily the equal of virtually any show that could ever air on HBO, Netflix, or anywhere else.  Just incredible.

Is this a stand-alone season, or the first season of an ongoing series?

You're dead on with that, it doesn't have a 'basic' cable feel. Definitely a show that can compete with any of the 'big dogs'. I haven't seen any info. on subsequent seasons. A girl in my office said she read online that the show wasn't doing as well in the ratings that FX would like but I've not seen that article.

I can't imagine it's a 'cheap' show to produce. Like Hef said....the production value of this show is incredible.

Just caught the latest episode. Wow, they couldn't just let us be satisfied with the death earlier in the episode, they had to give us that ending.

Just watched the season Finale. Wow! What a show. So glad to know that there is more story to come. Delaney is such an intense and 'large' character, can't wait to see more.

Agreed with above. Just finished Finale last night and this was one of the strangest shows I've ever seen....in a good way. I'm just fascinated with the Delaney character, his "plan", and use of gathering these different characters to assist in the execution of it. I always have the CC going because I don't want to misinterpret any dialogue as it is difficult phrasing for my american ears and very soft at times. Looking forward for another season. :tup

Started watching only yesterday. Looks like in the vein of Penny Dreadful. I don't mind these kind of sceneries so I'm curious to see how the story will unfold between Bane and Talissa Stark  :D
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Just finished to watch it. Not a total masterpiece for me, at places it's a bit slow and convoluted, but Tom Hardy mmm-mhing his way through London and delivering sheer badassery back and forth and Jonathan Pryce cursing like a sailor are total highlights of the show, followed closely by the always horny chemist.

The only main character that was a bit of a letdown was the sister for me, she didn't do really anything except for being sulky and clearly aroused around Delaney, and then she just jumped into the river at the end.

Also I'm still not sure that the reveal that Doug Stamper was in league with the EIC makes much sense, but all in all the final episodes were really great and redeemed the less stellar episodes that came before. It's nothing alike Penny Dreadful but it's a distant relative in spirit and tone in a sense.

Basically this. Binge watched this show a couple weeks ago and was blown away. I normally don't enjoy this kind of shows in a past time thing but this one strays from the norm. Simply amazing.
