Missed Live Songs
« on: November 15, 2016, 01:01:35 PM »
Just thinking of DT's great songs that got overlooked live. I'll start with three.
The Bigger Picture
Behind The Veil
2 of my fav tracks off DT12, those would have been a nice addition to BTFW!

Never Enough
Not popular opinion around here, but I love the groove of that song! (ironic that I chose this song considering the topic)  :xbones

You actually made me realize that most likely we'll hear the "missing" DT12 songs at the I&W shows next year  :metal

I wouldn't mind hearing Never Enough live, even though I want from that album These Walls even more.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I've never hidden my disdain for Never Enough.

I'd love to see The Bigger Picture and Surrender to Reason live finally. Two of the best songs on DT12 left off the main tour. Damn you, JP, for not alternating setlists.    :\

Yes please.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Out of 144 album tracks, I have seen all but 19 since 2004 (not including New Millennium, which I saw in 1998)! They've been really great at rotating the setlists from show to show, year to year, tour to tour. Here's the list of 19 that I wouldn't mind seeing once in my livetime:

Status Seeker (last played in 2004)
The Killing Hand (last played in 2004)
The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun (last played in 2004)
Only a Matter of Time (last played in 2004)
You Not Me (only played twice)
Burning My Soul (last played in 2015)
Hell's Kitchen (last played in full in 1998, part of BMS in 2002)
Take Away My Pain (last played in 1998)
Anna Lee (last played in 1998)
Regression (last played in 2005 during SFAM performances in South America)
Through Her Eyes (see Regression)
The Great Debate (last played in 2011)
Disappear (played twice in 2004)
Repentence (played once in NY in 2008)
The Best of Times (never played)
Far From Heaven (last played in 2012)
The Bigger Picture (never played)
Behind the Veil (only played in Europe in 2015)
Surrender to Reason (never played)
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.

I've always wanted them to play Eve with Jordan. The last time they played it, Derek was still in the band.

Also, I wonder why they never played Raw Dog. I know, it's not their best instrumental, but it's very cool imo, they should give it a chance someday.

Other songs I would love to see them play with Mangini are:

- The Killing Hand
- Erotomania
- Voices
- Blind Faith
- The Ministry of Lost Souls
- Take the Time
- Hell's Kitchen
- Beyond This Life
- Stream of Consciousness
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

As to 'Never Enough'  (unless you were speaking in terms of an official release)
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwRvepsPQVw

One of my favorite percussion pieces during the instrumental, and would sing the chorus to myself way too often at a former job.
...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

Never Enough is one of those weird songs for me.  When I just think about it, I dislike it for many of the reasons that others dislike it (distasteful lyrics, sounding like a Muse clone, etc), and I pretty much never think "Man, I really want to listen to that song!"

But WHEN I listen to it, I get into it and enjoy it.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I agree with your first paragraph completely. Your second one is not registering with me. The third is an involuntary spasm from hearing James' Muse vocals.

Just give me mostly SC/BCaSL songs on an official, good live dvd.  :hefdaddy
Jordan took Moore's boring, pedestrian parts and elevated them considerably to take them from barely palatable to stellar.

I actually like Never Enough, it fills a mood on the 8Vm album nicely, and worked well live - better than IWBY did when they swapped it out, that's for sure.

Take Away My Pain & Anna Lee are both overdue a return to the setlist, even if the latter sounds like "anally".

Songs I'd most like to see:

Home
The Killing Hand
"And if love remains, though everything is lost,
We will pay the price, but we will not count the cost..."

It will be very cool to hear again ACoS and Home and, for the first time, Surrender to Reason (and please, extend that f... jam solo!!! ;D :tup)

I wish there was an instrumental-only version of Never Enough, I think I would really like that. With the lyrics, by the time the song arrives as "I can only take so much of your ungrateful ways", I checked out.

"Anna Lee" -- such a beautiful tune, that gets no love from DT, unfortunately.

"Hell's Kitchen" - great instrumental. I harbor the unpopular opinion that it was rightfully taken out of "Burning My Soul" and made a standalone track.
