A friend and I were wandering a local cemetery last weekend and came across a butterfly-shaped headstone for a 17-year-old girl. I decided to Google her name and found this blog with an old article about her getting to meet Geoff Tate and see the band before she died.

I don't think I ever heard about this at the time, but how cool! Also, DT is briefly mentioned haha

Putting all recent negativity about Geoff aside, really cool that he did this for a dying fan. I might have asked for something similar in her situation. Also, it's cool that a hospice social worker set it up, since that's what I do  :D

That is cool of Geoff indeed.

Just out of curiosity though, why did you decide to google this girls name?

*shrug*
Every once in a while I will do a search, if somebody's name or headstone stands out to me.  Weirdly enough, my friend and I had been talking about both Queensryche and DT earlier that day! So it was "meant to be," I suppose.

I didn't click the link, but that's because I already know the story you are referring to.  Yeah, it was really cool, and he was obviously very touched by the experience.  I had forgotten about it.  It's a really great reminder about how sometimes going out of your way to do something that really isn't all that big a deal can really mean a lot to someone and touch their life in a special way.

A few years ago when I read this story and was very moved by it. I was in college and I corresponded with her Mom I believe. I don't recall if Brittany was alive when I did but I did send her way a few cds and some cash. If I recall, I sent her a few Dream Theater and Queensryche CDs. We went back and forth a couple of times but then life took over and I/we didn't follow up. I still have the letters though and I probably still have the emails that I sent to the reporter so I could get Brittany's address. This is probably one of the stories that touched my heart deeply and did something about it.

2003. I think that was the DT/QR/FW show. I was at that show right before DT dropped Train Of Thought.  It was my first DT show and I traveled from Austin TX to Denver for it (family and such in the area).
