Legendary Bassist Victor Wooten Has Joined A Prog Metal Project!

Octavision's first song and video just dropped; I assume an album will be coming soon! Wooten is best known for his work with Bela Fleck, but he's been involved in many different types of projects over the years. This is his first foray into prog metal territory as far as I know. The bass solo about halfway through is wicked, but it also sounds like all his bandmates are talented dudes. Looking forward to hearing more!!!

Legit as fuck.  Loved when the flute thing came in too.  A lot of TDOE/ITNOG influences in there IMO which is cool.  The drummer is awesome.  Definitely something I'd check out.  The bass solo section was great and had a real BTBAM vibe to it actually IMO in places.

Great instrumental! Would be nice if they could find a killer vocalist to match the talent of the band's current lineup though. It's not a necessity, but it'd be nice.

HOLY CRAP...that was intense. I need to listen to it at home with headphones and not at work with lame speakers...but wow.

Agreed with the others, I never thought Wooten, a classically trained jazz bassist would ever try prog, though to be fair. The Flecktones ventured into some proggy territory with their instrumentations and arrangements.

If this is a full blown band with a whole album of prog metal instrumentals, I'm ready, sign me up, take my money! Wooten is one of my favorite bassists of all time, and hearing him in Flecktones music over the last decade since discovering them, I've grown to love his playing. I never got any of his solo albums, but there was one song that featured the drummer from Dave Matthews Band, called "Zenergy", and it's one of my favorite songs Wooten's ever done.

"... Obviously, Victor Wooten is a legend and a giant. He is also a friend of mine. Sentiments and questions of “VW is in a prog metal band??” are fair and expected. However, and this is with Victor’s and the other group members suggestion, I’d like to again point out that this is my personal project that I have funded, organized, written, produced and arranged. No, this is not Victor Wooten's new band.

In the midst of putting together the music, I began asking and seeking out specific players and musicians who I thought would fit this project and the music and bring solid musicality, as well as a fresh perspective. I am honored to have this collection of musicians join me on the song "Three Lives"

While this first single has these specific members featured, for forthcoming releases and albums, there is no telling which different musicians and collaborative opportunities may be present. Yes, my vision is a progressive metal/rock one, but there are many colors and textures within that landscape that may be explored and may contain various featured soloists and collaborators as well.

So think about this more as a special project that I put together with a dream team of musicians that will encompass many elements of progressive rock and metal.
