El Dorado and The Alchemist end up in a tiebreaker in first round voting.

____________

These are my bottom two in a very tight ranking for this album, so I'm okay with either of them going out. That said, my vote still goes to

El Dorado

Yeah, I'd say both are more on the bottom-tier of the album. Vote goes to El Dorado.

Hmm, let's see...  A top 10 Maiden song vs. the weakest song on the album.   What to do?

The Alchemist

Since it looks possible that this tiebreaker could end up with a tied vote, I'd like to bring up what I'm thinking about doing if that does end up happening before the poll actually closes.

In the past, when a tiebreaker has ended up tied, I've gone by total vote count to determine which song goes out. Obviously, this being the first round, that doesn't seem like a valid option. That leaves two alternatives that I can think of: one is just to eliminate them both and consider them tied for last place, and the other is to track down someone who hasn't voted in the poll and get them to choose (potentially someone who isn't a fan of the band who would just listen once to each song and pick a least favorite).

Personally, I don't mind just killing them both. It's the first round, and I doubt that the survivor of this tiebreaker will get that far. But if y'all want me to track down an individual to break the tie in the event that this poll ends up tied (thus allowing one of the songs to survive, so if you're a fan of one of these songs and think it has potential to go further, you might want this), I'm perfectly willing to do that—just say the word. Fair warning, I'll likely go straight to a user who is very active and who I know is not a Maiden fan.

Of course, this poll could end up not being tied at all, rendering this whole discussion moot. I just noticed the possibility and wanted to have a plan about how to keep the survivor going smoothly and be transparent about it as well.

I'd say just bin them both. To be honest I think that should be the general rule for the first 3 rounds of any survivor, tiebreakers should only be used at the business end of the album. I've never seen the loser of any early-round tie-break survive beyond the next 1 or 2 rounds.

Nah.  El Dorado should be in the top 1 or 2 on the album, so don't knock it off just because a few misguided people happened to mistakenly vote for it in the first round.

I agree with ED being number 1 or 2.. But you know those same people will come for it next round if it doesn't go now.. So I'd say the more reasonable option would be to eliminate both, even when I don't want El Dorado to go..

Very surprised at all the dislike for The Alchemist. It's a fun fast song with a memorable bridge, it could have been the Death or Glory of this album if played live.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

The thing with this album is, at least in my opinion, there really isn't a bad song on it.  I feel the Book of Souls, for example, is much weaker as a whole and definitely has more easily definable top tier, mid tier, and lower tier tracks that a lot more people might be inclined to agree on.

I really like The Alchemist a lot. But I rank it 9th on the album, because this album is spectacular.

Also, The Alchemist is about 10 times better than Death or Glory. And I like Death or Glory.

I completely agree with your post.  But you have the two song titles switched.

And they're the two weakest songs on the album.

Also, please someone else vote.

I suggest we take them both out, 99% the song that would win this tiebreaker would be eliminated next round anyway.

Another option, 425's vote counts double so that the tie is broken.

Since bosk at least seems to want a tiebreaker, but no one else does, I'll at least make a brief effort for that. I just sent a PM to somebody who I know is an active forum poster and is not voting in this survivor. If I don't hear back within about 9 hours, I'll eliminate both and make the next thread.

I understand wanting to eliminate both at this early stage.  Don't let me stand in the way and delay things if that's the direction you want to go.

I'm actually quite sympathetic, personally, to the idea of getting a clean top-to-bottom ranking for each album and eliminating only one song each round. But if it does end up in a situation where a tiebreaker gets delayed beyond this evening, I'll kill them both and keep things running.

Well, for me he could count his vote double, I wouldn't mind since he's the one running the survivor and should have some perks. Or eliminate both but if he wants a proper ranking (and I understand the reasoning), just put last the one he voted for.

I could just temp ban everyone who voted for El Dorado until after the survivor is complete if that would help.
