Just checked out that Woods song parama, and it's the album that's on my list to check out even though the song Tomislav sent me wasn't off this same album. It's definitely a different sound from them, not nearly as doomy, but I quite like this one too. Seems like I'll like this band a lot.

Let me run trough their discography for you:
first EP - folk/black metal, in style similar to American BM but actually really unique (at least from what I've heard of USBM)
first album - more doom and folky, cleaner than EP
second album (Woods 3) - similar to Woods 2, just less folky, but really mix of all their styles
third album (Woods 4) - the doom-est album
fourth (Woods 5) - I'd say cleanest album in terms of production and also the one that's the least black-metal of all their albums, the most experimental and diverse

Usually, I like singers with higher pitched vocals more but David's bassy cleans are really cool, his voice is one of the things that got me into Woods of Ypres.

EDIT: this is f'ing bullshit I wanted to send round 2 song but every song on album is so good I don't know which to send :/

Nice :) any opinions on spoken world samples in music? Ok if used well or do you just flat out hate them?

Well I did about as well I expected to do so there's that. You also liked something about the song. I knew the vocals were kind of the deal breaker but that's one of the things I like most about Crowbar. Kirk's voice is...........different.

It may have a slightly dated sound but it's nearly 25 years old (I think). Blame the production on Phil Anselmo, not sure if this was off the first record he produced but it's gotta be one of the first.

I also have a bit of nostalgia linked to this band as they are one of my older brothers favourites (and he shaped a lot of my musical taste). He played Crowbars' debut a LOT.

Sent something a bit outside of what people would expect, both for a Parama roulette and for the artist in question, that I've always kind of wanted to send in a DTF roulette.

Round 2 First Impressions

You’ve definitely hit upon a sweet spot with heavy, atmospheric music here though, even if there is one glaring flaw.

I like the pounding drums going on here quite a lot, gives the song a big, bombastic feel, and the driving bassline definitely adds to that mood.

This is actually kind of interesting though, it’s a very downbeat, plodding song that still has a nice level of intensity going on.

I quite dig that atmospheric, chaotic bit a bit past the middle of the song, quite intense but also beautiful, in a way.

It’s well-textured and rather pleasant to listen to but not something that hits me too hard on first listen, though I can see it growing on me.

I think what’s sticking out most here is how good the mix is… all the instruments are quite audible and it all comes together well.

There’s a good amount of diversity here and although none of it is really that fresh I can certainly enjoy it for what it is, even if I’m not a huge fan yet.

I honestly can’t tell if this is super pretentious or it’s just that I don’t “get” it but I certainly can’t deny that it’s unique.

Already this feels like it has a lot more personality and originality to it than the genre’s standard.

I liked this more than I expected to, though I don’t like it as much as your first round submission, either.

Overall: I already have a strong feeling of who 10th place in this round is going to be, but that tempting 9th place slot is still up for grabs. This round definitely feels more diverse and probably more interesting for it, though. The highs are likely going to be higher, the lows probably lower. Fun times all around.

It's either:

a) Because keeping the judge label reminds everyone that I was once in the privileged position of deciding once and for all whether their songs are good or bad, or

b) Because I keep forgetting to change my avatar and don't know what even to change it to.

Anyway, I think #3 might be mine if you actually like it. Or #9.

One of these two is probably mine. Most likely the first one. Ah yes, give me my #10 spot.

Edit: and damn, someone sent a song with a longer title than my song.

I'd say mine is probably #4, #9 or #10. Coulf be a few of the others as well, though. I'm really curious for the write-up. Also, try listening to my song loud and in complete darkness at least once, that's the scenario wherr it truly shines.

And I'm just too lazy to change my avatar, no other reason honestly.
