First few lines of TSCO are very Roger Waters
« on: July 02, 2016, 10:08:29 PM »
"They say life is too short, the here and the now, and you're only given one shot
Could there be more, have I lived before, or could this be all that we've got"

Something about LaBrie's expression of the last words of those two lines and the theme of that first verse is very reminiscent of Roger Waters.  I'm trying to figure out if there is some particular song I'm thinking of, or if it's more abstract than that, but it's probably something from The wall.

Roger Waters had a tendency (especially during that period) to really exaggerate his 't' sounds at the end of a line where other singers wouldn't to avoid sibilance, maybe that's what you're thinking of? JLB kind of does this but not as extreme as Roger. He really pronounces his t's there though for sure. Waters also exaggerated the last words of phrases in general, which JLB is doing a bit.

They were going for that Floyd vibe so I wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to channel Roger Waters there.

It's always great to see Dream Theater channeling Roger Waters, he's such an obvious influence and I think all of the DT guys pull it off really well. Especially James, some of the stuff on The Astonishing is very Roger Waters.

TSCO is definitely written in the mindset of Floyd, so this isn't surprising.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

To me SFAM is relatively recent since it forms the dividing line in my mind between early DT and later DT because it is when I first discovered them.
