What are your favorite things to do in your free time?

Right now, life's pretty hectic with the wife, 8 year old step-son, 8 month old daughter, one full time job, one part time job, and being a full time student. But yeah, when not doing any of that, sports (watching and playing) and music (just listening, can't really play any instruments or sing).

Hey DoC,

What jobs are you working at and what are you studying at school?

What sports do you like to play?

I know you recently started following the NHL/Caps.  What do you think of the game of ice hockey compared to the other 'big 3' major American sports?

Hey.. and thank you for the questions.

For my career, I work for the (US) Department of Defense as a federal employee, a position that I was able to transition into after my stint in the Navy.  I'm a security escort part time to make some extra money. Basically, I escort uncleared folks in cleared spaces so they can do work, maintenance, construction etc.

So serving in the Navy afforded me some benefits, one of which is college money, so I am using that to pursue a degree in business management. Not exactly a passion of mine, but can't beat the price.

Football was always my favorite sport to play. I played in high school, but after joining the Navy went to flag football. I also have played/do play basketball, softball, and KICKBALL, which is a lot of fun.

So I've actually followed hockey casually my whole life. And I've always admired the Caps from afar (Baltimore being afar). I particularly appreciated the greatness of Peter Bondra and some of those late 90s teams, like the one that actually make the Stanley Cup finals only to get steamrolled by the Red Wings. I've always seemed to get behind the Caps during the playoffs, which has been tough for obvious reasons, but yes, I've only recently become a true fan, keeping up during the regular season, watching games whenever I can. I still have yet to attend my first NHL game, but I did go to a Philadelphia Phantoms game back in the day, and that was pretty awesome.

Hockey is probably my 4th favorite behind football, baseball and basketball, but I have a lot of respect for the toughness and skill that it takes to play hockey. Those guys are incredible.

Thanks for the questions gentlemen. I had a blast in the Navy. My experience was about as anti-Navy as it gets. Did four years (ages 20-24) and I never saw a ship or left the country. Basic training in Illinois (first time I got on an airplane), "A" school in Florida, "C" school in Arizona, and "shore duty" in my home state of Maryland. My rate (job) was CTR (Cryptologist Technician (Collection/Receiving) and I made it from E1-E5 in my 4 years. Turned down a pretty big reenlistment bonus and got out, because I already had my foot in the door at the place that I wanted to make a career of, but part of me regrets not re-enlisting and seeing the world.

Thanks!  I get the regret part.  The thought of traveling the world on  Navy shift sounds so exciting.   Big but here, I'm guessing this lead you to your wife and children which is a ride in itself.

You didn't answer the why'd ya join the Navy question. Seems to me that if you picked that service you must have wanted to be on a ship or a boat. Is that a source of disappointment? We all hear about the ups and downs of life at sea, but never about being land based. How does that work? Base housing? Had you reenlisted would you have been doing something different altogether, or doing something similar but in a different place? I assume being a cryptologist can get you work at sea, as well, so would you have preferred that or a different posting ashore? Did your job require a real understanding of cryptoanalysis or was it that all computerized?

Ring any bells?

Yes I did fail to mention why. I didn't take high school seriously at all. Didn't take SATs ACT or apply for any colleges. So once I graduated I was like...now what?  After a couple of minimum wagish jobs, I decided that I either needed to go to college or join the military. The latter paid for the former, so it was an easy decision for me. Joined the Navy on a whim, happened to be the first and only recruiter I met with. Got a high ASVAB score. Decided on the CT track because it sounded "cool".

Shore duty was much like serving in one of the other branches. You had a primary job/duty that you reported to, and you would also have PT and other stuff you'd associate with the military.

By the time I rolled through, it was all basically computerized. I learned the concepts and the history/evolution of the work, but yeah, mostly automated processes that I would record/report on.

So would you have preferred serving on a ship? And did the ASVAB suggest a career in nuclear engineering or becoming a SEAL?

All things considered, I preferred serving on shore. Base housing was nice, and probably 10x nicer than bunking up with my shipmates, but as I've said, I do regret not seeing the world.

After taking the ASVAB my recruiter was pushing me towards nuclear engineering. Don't know if there was a quota or if it was legit the best choice for me, but I was adamant on taking the Cryptologic Technician route.

I never once considered being a SEAL, but from what I've seen of their training, I would have washed out.

It's just a theory of mine, but I think that whatever the ASVAB result suggest the recruiters always tell you nuclear engineering or SEAL, simply because those are the things most likely to interest nerds or jocks. When the folks in my class compared notes we found that were all potential engineers and SEALs, and in reality both groups were just as likely to wind up as cooks or laundry specialists as anything else.

Thanks for the questions!

Not a problem!

Was really interesting to read. :)

A few more if you don't mind.

1) Would you rather be super rich with a really, really boring, but super comfortable job, or a job that require extreme strength and leaves you very exhausted every day, but you enjoy it?

2) How is your faith in humanity currently?

3) What is the most important life lesson you have learned?

4) What are three interesting facts about you that no one knows?

5) Are you are a cat person, dog person, neither, or both?

Thanks again! :tup

You're a big baseball fan like me so I know the kinds of questions about the sport I like discussing, so here are a few for you.

1. All-Time Orioles Team (one player per position) I can probably guess most of them but I want to hear your version.

2. Five greatest baseball players of all-time.

3. I've been to Camden Yards and it's a beautiful park. Obviously it's no Yankee Stadium (in my eyes). Besides Camden, what's your favorite baseball stadium?

4. 2017 World Series Winner

5. 2017 World Baseball Classic Winner

6. Least favorite team/player.

Good questions.

1. I'd rather be super rich with the boring job. If I were asked this when I was younger, I would have went the other way, but all I can think of is what I could do for my family, friends, and others if I were super rich, and to me, I'd much prefer that, than any job related satisfaction.

2. Faith in humanity is pretty mixed. We live in an age where so much knowledge and information is at our disposal, but still, as a people, we don't seem to be learning from our mistakes or doing what we can to help one-another.

3. The most important life lesson that I've learned is to be true to yourself. Don't allow yourself to sink to other people's level, however satisfying it may seem to be at the time. My ex-wife had an affair... and I seemed to be the last to know. But I didn't flip out on her, try to get revenge or anything like that... just went through the divorce process civilly, and now things couldn't be better for me. Fast forward and I'm remarried with a 8 year old step-son and an 8 month old daughter. Couldn't be happier.

4. Drawing a blank, but I'll think on it :)

5. I've always preferred cats... no idea why.

6. Least favorite team/player.

Oh boy... all Orioles team I'll try to do it via lineup.

1. Adam Jones - CF
2. Roberto Alomar - 2B
3. Frank Robinson - RF
4. Eddy Murray - 1B
5. Chris Davis - DH
6. Cal Ripken Jr - SS
7. Brooks Robinson - 3B
8. Matt Wieters - C
9. B.J. Surhoff - LF

Starting Pitcher - Jim Palmer

Defensively, that would be an incredible team, especially in the infield.  I was tempted to have Javy Lopez at C but his best years by far were in Atlanta. It was a tossup at C between Wieters and Hoiles.

2. That's crazy hard but here goes. Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Walter Johnson.  I think Ken Griffey Jr was on pace before the injuries.

3.   I've honestly only been inside a few Major League ballparks.  Camden Yards and Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Veterans Stadium and Citizen's Bank in Philly, and fn RFK in D.C.  So I'm not able to judge first hand which is the best ball park. My favorite by far is Camden Yards, and I love that it has such a great reputation. Maybe one day, I'll get to travel more and visit more ball parks. Yankee Stadium Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are obvious choices, but I'd also like to see the parks in K.C. St.Louis, San Francisco and Seattle among others.

4. I think the Cubbies repeat. I like the moves that Cleveland made, so they're the favorites in the AL. So we may have a WS repeat. We shall see. Kind of waiting for the Nationals to figure it out and get over the hump but I don't think it will be this year.

5. I honestly haven't followed enough to know which countries are the favorites. Will root US... but don't think they have a chance.

6. Least favorite team is either the Red Sox/Yankees.... whichever fanbase is more intolerable at a given moment. Of course the Blue Jays have crept up with Joe Bats' unlikable self.  But really, least favorite players are the ones who cheated. Period.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

That's a tough one, like describing the color blue to someone without using the word blue.

I would try to describe similar to different pitches in sound. For example a monotone voice would be like being colorblind and different pitches would represent the different colors you can see. It'd still be near impossible.

Griffey Jr has always been one of my favorite players. It makes one wonder what his numbers would have been like without injuries. I always say Babe Ruth and not because he was a Yankee. His numbers as a pitcher were pretty damn good, too. I don't think can be said about anyone else. He excelled in both areas.

Heya Reap, some questions:

1) How'd you come up with your username?
2) What's your profile picture about?
3) What are your favorite bands?
4) What are the three most important traits in a relationship? Why?
5) Did you ever have a nightmare? What's the most scary nightmare you've ever had?
6) Got any pics of your motorcycle?
7) If you right now visited your past self, what advice would you give him?

Hey Serah!

1.) It's a super old username, back in 1995 I got my first computer in second grade and the best place to play games was zone.com. I wanted grim reaper which was taken so I just took ReaperKK, KK being my initials.

2.) Brian Griffin from Family Guy, I change my form profile pic almost never. I was watching an episode where Brian wrote a book and that was his writers profile picture, I thought it was hilarious so I put it as my profile pic.

3.) Tough but here it goes: dredg, Incubus, Fair to Midland, Kaki King, Michael Kelsey, Seven Lions, Dire Straits

4.) Honesty is number one, good sense of humor (or at least one that clicks with mine), someone who has an open mind. Honesty is easy because no one really likes being lied to. The humor thing is pretty important to me because I've been a few relationships where the girl I was dating took everything seriously, life was serious, everything is serious. Finally being open minded is important. I'm always up to try new things, travel, listen to new bands, try new foods. I'd like my partner to be the same, I don't want to go to the applebees every night :lol

5.) Yes, I get them all the time! The most memorable one was when I moved to college. I had a nightmare that I was parked at this parking lot that my college had, it's nighttime and the ground was damp from a recent rain. I'm walking to my car and right as I get to the door I feel someone press a gun to my temple. It was so real, I could feel the cold metal. They didn't say anything and shot me, I remember hitting the ground and I could feel how cold the ground is and I can feel my face getting wet with my own blood. I kept thinking that I was getting tired but if I stay awake I'll live. I closed my eyes in the dream and woke up. I also have a recurring nightmare where I'm about to graduate college and my adviser calls me in to tell me I can't because I missed a class in high school and I have to go back. It then jumps to me driving back to high school and being mortified that I have to go high school again.

6.) Yup! This is a pretty old pic but my bike is the exact same. My current bike is the black R6S. The orange bike is a Yamaha that I used to own and sold to my buddy.

7.) Stop being so fucking lazy! Also start loosing a few pounds.

That R6 is so damn sexy. My plan is to get an SV650 this summer (If hopefully I can find a job) and probably keep that for the foreseeable future. Maybe one day I will work my way up to an RS or another super sport

I love the sv650. My maintance guy had one and it was great. It had a lot of low end power which made it perfect for city riding. My bike is a real pain to drive around in the city.

If I remeber correctly you had a yzf 600r right?

I believe that may have been someone else. I had gotten my license back in 2013, just weeks before starting Graduate school, so unfortunately that has taken all my focus up now. But 9 weeks from today, I graduate can start living again. Hopefully I can find a job quick and then have the summer to ride.

My friend has a v strom 650 which he let me ride here and there. It felt a little too big, but at least I got to get a taste of that 650 engine and its dynamics, which I did like.
