What's your top 3 Kiss albums.
Who is your favorite member?
What is your top 3 songs by them?
After the debacle of the extended reunion, I'm really sour on Peter.

5.  The Gibson (is it a 338?) with the Union Jack on it.  Cheesy, I know.  If not he has the same model one that is wine red that is BEAUTIFUL.

Actually it's an Epiphone Sheraton II ( oasis nerd ahoy ).

I had the Epiphone Supernova which was based on it ( more of a casino / 335 type body - less fancy... )

I wasn't a fan of his Paisley Pink Telecaster mind. Gem had some nice Firebirds as well.

Favorite beer?

Favorite bourbon?

Favorite Scotch?

I think we probably discussed at some point, but do you smoke cigars?  If so, favorite brand?

Guiness or Miller High Life. No, that's not a typo.   I also like Molson Brador, though I've been told that's the shit that Molson brews to sell to Americans with no taste.

I don't really have a favorite bourbon, but I do like the peatier scotchs (I went to a tasting not long ago, and had one that just floored me, and I'm blanking on the name), and I'm a fairly big Irish Whiskey guy.  Tullamore Dew is usually the one I take when the occasion arises, and the more expensive stuff isn't really an option.

I'm more a vodka guy; I even like some of the potato vodkas from eastern Europe.

I don't smoke cigars often, but my three closest friends from college do, and in fact, one is a "member" at a little cigar club in Hartford.  So we go in there - it's BYOB - and we watch a game or two, drink a little and enjoy a cigar or two.  THat's usually the only time I partake.  I don't have a preferred brand; I usually let my friend Mike select, since he gets pleasure out of finding new cigars to smoke.   Where I am (northern CT) is a hotbed for some of the best wrapping tobacco around (and my step-father in law has a barn on his property that he leases for use for drying).

He started to get greedy, and his skills started to deteriorate.  He held the band hostage in Australia (they were booked to do a symphonic thing) and then on the co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, the promoters demanded at least three original members.  Ace was already out, so they threw some money at Pete, and he took advantage.  He sluffed off (even sabotaging tempos live) and took to painting a tear drop on his face (to communicate to the "fans" that he was "unhappy").  The show I saw on that tour was literally the worst drum performance I have ever seen, and I am convinced to this day that they had a drummer (or a keyboard player) in the wings triggering the drums.  He barely moved his arms for two hours.   That's when they went to the "Eric/Tommy" phase full on, and never looked back.  Say what you will, but the Gene/Eric rhythm section is a MONSTER.

Are those Epiphone's nice to play? I may go check one out, though I don't think it will look good on me.  I'm not that tall (5'8") and not that aerodynamic.

The Supernova was very nice indeed. Quite thin at the nut end though. My big hands found it difficult to play open chords down there.

On the neck pickup it was really bassy though. Awesome for jazz.

Cheap Epiphones are really naff but I had a £500 Epiphone Les Paul Custom which I loved as much as my Gibson.

I am also 5'8" and I managed with the "bulk" of the Sheraton ok. Look at Noel. he must be 5'7" or so . He suits em just fine.

But yeah if you get an Epiphone Guitar - get a high end one and get one with Gibson Pickups already installed. It'll roar . :tup

How did you get into Graphic Design?
How did you get into DT?

Here are some questions:

How did you get into Graphic Design?
How did you get into DT?

a) Erm, not a professional graphics designer by any stretch of the imagination. I just liked messing about with photoshop in my teens, and used small projects/requests by friends etc. to help me learn the software.
b) My uncles were both fans of them and introduced me through the older albums (IAW/awake). Loved both albums, and my elder uncle took me to see them for the 2002 tour in London, and that's when I joined DTF and started to explore their discography more.

When you tell ladies that you're a mod over at DTF, are they impressed?

Ladies? Are they the people who exist outside the lab?

Depending on the complexity, between 4 - 30 hours of work generally. Less if I cheap out and use an existing theme as the base, more if there are custom elements to get working.

XJ, how did you stumble upon this site?

I am one of the old guard, having been a member since the forums were still attached to the official site at DreamTheater.net. I joined the forums after browsing the official site for tour information or similar. I have been a mod since just before the official forums closed down and through the two unofficial incarnations.

Favorite Dream Theater album and song? Least favorite?

Favourite song without a doubt is Voices. Favourite album is a toss up between awake and Scenes From A Memory. Least favourite album is...probably The Astonishing. I've tried quite hard to get into it but for some reason it just doesn't gel with me. I can't think of an individual song I dislike enough to regard as least favourite.

Shortened form of Xavier James Denton, a pseudonym i used for RPG characters. Xavier from X-men, James is my actual middle name, Denton is from the main character of Deus Ex, my favourite computer game.

What's your favorite cuisine?

I really like Japanese food. Ramen/noodle soups, stir fried vegetables and Donburi are meals I will happily eat anywhen. Other than that, British comfort food and Swedish husmanskost are always satisfying.

Quote
What would you suggest to a foreigner looking for authentic British food?

It will be quite hard to find stuff I would consider "authentic" outside the UK. I mean, a fair few of our traditionally iconic meals have already migrated all over the world (for example, fish and chips you can find in most countries and the Tikka Masala will be found in any Indian restaurant nowdays) but I wouldn't say its that easy to find British cuisine abroad otherwise. Primarily I think is that it is not that exotic, most of our traditional foods are some variant of meat, potatoes, vegetable and pastry, which most other countries will already be filling that niche with their own dishes. The English pubs in Sweden for example will often miss the point on most dishes.

With modern british cuisine, the great advantage it has nowadays is the breadth and depth of influences that come from the migrants that came from the empire and the EU, so we have a pretty decent restaurant scene providing fusion cuisine. Honestly though? Best way to experience British food is to go to a decent recipe site and cook them yourself. Most of our food isn't extremely complicated and you can likely get a decent result at home.

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/british

Otherwise hit up a Gastropub if you are in the country.

Quote
Last meal before you execution?

Toad in the hole, mashed potatoes, peas, lashings of gravy, washed sown with a good Porter and a highland single malt.

Quote
You find anything interesting about Irish/Scottish/English food differences?

They are broadly similar, though there are a few regional variations and specialities. Scotland has haggis, which is far more delicious than its description would convince you, and the scotch egg, god's gift to the world of bar snacks.

Well, y'all certainly have better named food, and a fondness for pieing up your meat.  :lol  If I find myself over there again I'll spend more time looking for something domestic. Though I did eat a damn fine Thai curry last time I was there.

Is your "better taste in food" comment based on English food, or the selection of foreign foods? And what country were you comparing it to? I suspect everybody's partial to their own country's tastes, but we both live in countries with tons of imported cuisine.

Non-food related, weren't you pursuing a doctorate in something freakishly complicated?

It was based on the fact that when a Brit asks for some cheddar cheese, at no point will the response be "how long should I spray for?" as is sometimes the case in the US. :p

In seriousness though, I've had a lot of really excellent food in the US. Really like Cajun food in particular. But by god, some of the stuff you can buy in the supermarket over there is terrible.

I got my doctorate a few (4) years ago, but I still work as a postdoc. I do electron and ion spectroscopy using X-rays. Sitting at an X-ray beamline in Germany as I type this in fact!

Favorite album/song by Dream Theater? Least favorite?

Top 5 all time favorite bands?

Top 3 all time songs?

Favorite NBA/MLB/NFL team and player?

Thanks for the questions!

My user name is the title of a pretty terrible song that I wrote back in 2002.

I've been a Dream Theater fan since 1997. Did really get active online until 2001. Lurked from time to time, but finally broke down and joined the forums in October of 2004 back when it was still DT.Net.

Favorite album of all time ( by anyone) is Scenes From a Memory. It still blows my mind how fantastic it really is. Favorite song is In the Presence of Enemies. Before the release of SC, favorite song was Home.

Least favorite album is Falling Into Infinity, but I still really like it! Least favorite DT song has pretty much always been Just Let Me Breathe.

Top 5 Bands.... that's hard, but I'll try.
1. Dream Theater
2. Shadow Gallery
3. Redemption
4. Kamelot
5. Nightwish

Top 3 songs, again.. difficult, so I'll just go my favorite song from my top 5 bands
Dream Theater = In the Presence of Enemies
Shadow Gallery - I Believe
Redemption - Sapphire
Kamelot - Memento Mori
Nightwish - Beauty of the Beast

Favorite teams
MLB - Orioles (hence the user pic) - Cal Ripken
NFL Ravens - Jerry Rice (no he wasn't a Raven, but he was incredible)

NBA - 76ers (Russell Westbrook)
NHL - Capitals (Alexander Ovechkin)

Thanks again for the questions

What are your favorite things to do in your free time?

Right now, life's pretty hectic with the wife, 8 year old step-son, 8 month old daughter, one full time job, one part time job, and being a full time student. But yeah, when not doing any of that, sports (watching and playing) and music (just listening, can't really play any instruments or sing).
