So Wilderun sounds a lot like Turisas to my ears, especially the vocals, which can only be a good thing as I'm partial to a bit of Turisas.

I can see the comparison between Scale the Summit and Animals as Leaders. I don't actively crave more instrumental music in this style as AaL and Pomegranate Tiger generally satisfy me. If I do crave more in the future then I will head in their direction.

I see no mention of Pain of Salvation here.... to me they are essential

Try The perfect element, Remedy lane or BE first

east of the wall :neverusethis:

Did check out one of their songs whilst browsing some old roulettes a while back. Liked them, but not enough to pursue any further at that point. What was the name of the album which had like a picture of a factory or something, all in muddy greens and browns?
the apologist, which is great

The Apologist is incredible.

There are a lot of bands that I don't see on the initial post that may be worth checking out. I'm going to recommend dredg and Oceansize who at 1 time were pretty popular around here (but both are not exactly active anymore).

and also Pain of Salvation, Vektor and Subterranean Masquerade are some others.

I have already checked out some stuff by PoS but wasn't initially blown away so I will have to revisit. I'm familiar with some of the above mentioned bands so will add the recommendations to the list.

My life is becoming less about life and more about lists of music, in different shapes and forms.

Giving the most recent Closure in Moscow album a listen as it sounds up my street from what I've heard. Just went ahead and downloaded it!! Got a long drive with my girlfriend today so will need plenty of tunes, not sure it will be her thing though  :loser:

Hitting up some generally regarded 'prog classics' that I've not heard today. Namely Misplaced Childhood by Marillion, Moving Pictures by Rush and Operation Mindcrine by Queensryche.

Giving Bilo 1,2 & 3 a listen at various points tonight. Bilo 3.0 has come up first. Very good first impression, it's like djent meets a Studio Ghibli soundtrack, I LOVE Studio Ghibli  :heart

I've listened to odd bits of his back catalogue this year. I've also read the reviews that you wrote on your recent thread. It's not bad so far. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of djent as such, I don't mind a bit of Periphery, Animals as Leaders and a few others but I wouldn't say I'm in love with that style.

Bilo 3.0 is quite nice so far, bit less full on djent I guess.

What about Fates Warning and Redemption? They are pretty much straightforward prog metal but they still kick so much ass, Redemption released album earlier this year and FW's newest is due on July 1st.

Fates Warning I've not listened to but am aware of. I think I did listen to some Redemption but not sure if I'm confusing them with Circus Maximus, possibly. I'll add them to my ever growing list.

Really loving Leprous at the moment, I'm fighting the urge to download the rest of their back catalogue (I only have Bilateral) at the moment as I should wait until payday.

Fates Warning's album Disconnected is sooo good, A Pleasant Shade of Grey is also worth checking out though. And from what I've heard the new one sounds promising too.
