Going to Long Island next week
« on: May 11, 2016, 08:39:40 AM »
Hey gang, so my girlfriend has a bid in Long Island Sunday through Thursday and I'm going with her. Anyone from around the area that can recommend some cool things to see and places to eat. We aren't going to head into the city because it's a long trip and we've been to NYC many, many times.

Since that's where JP lives, maybe you can stop by and use his bbq.

Don't choke John's chicken!

If you do decide to head into the city, let me know. I'll meet up with you.

Woah. Port Jefferson is way out there. That's even farther out than my family is.

I've never been to long island before, when I looked at a map I was surprised at how big it is.

do not get me wrong. It is beautiful. But even from me here 5 minutes outside NYC in Jersey. That is a 2 hour drive at least. Where you flying into? JFK or LaGuardia?

Agreed. It really is beautiful out there. It's probably so much more peaceful.

I would like to third the notion advanced by Troop and confirmed by Snob that it is indeed aesthetically pleasing.

I'm actually flying into Long Island McArthur Airport.

There is a direct flight from Tampa to there.

I mean, if you're that far out on the island you may as well drive to the end and see that area, which I think is very pretty. Sag Harbor and Montauk were nice, I know some people there. Never been to Port Jefferson but I have a friend who lives nearby. Nothing exciting in her town, though.
Side note: probably the highlight of my trip driving to the end of LI was that we were listening to the Zappa album Joe's Garage, and we passed an auto place called Joe's Garage! That's in Southampton, if you're a geek like me.
:lol
Oh Jackie, always jumping to the most homoerotic possibility.

It hasn't been said yet, as far as I can tell, but it is very nice out that way.

I used to go to Port Jeff from Bridgeport/New Haven fairly regularly.  It's a fun little place.   NYC is a haul, though.  If memory serves, though, I think Ritchie B. and Candace have a place not far, and got married not far from there as well.   You can have a séance!
