Blade Runner 2049 - October 6, 2017
« on: April 22, 2016, 08:02:55 PM »
Blade Runner 2 has been moved up to an October 6, 2017 release. The movie will star Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista.

I have no idea what to expect from this, but why not have yet another Harrison Ford sequel? :lol Anyone else excited about this?

Very much so! I've always enjoyed the first movie. I'm hoping that the sequel does it justice.

Very curious how this turns out. Will definitely watch it, hopefully it has interesting ideas and executes them well.

I was about to ask what Dave just answered so I'm gonna go ahead and fart in this one's general direction and mosey on out of here. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it isn't utter shit but I don't think for one second that it'll be anything more than either a massive amount of homages and coat-tailing and/or just...a bag of shit.

It will be to Blade Runner as Nemesis was to The Wrath of Khan.

But Denis Villeneuve is, and is arguably a much better director at the moment.

This.  Except I'm not sure I would call myself a "big" fan of the original.  I certainly respect it quite a bit.

I found the original move hugely disappointing, so I don't feel strongly about a sequel. But if it has the same great setting and similar premise as the first, this could be a great film.

Zantera gets it. Villeneuve is an incredibly underrated director. Sicario was the best film of 2015 in my book and his other films have a great reputation too. The idea of making a sequel to Blade Runner is an incredibly risky one, but if there's anyone in the world that could pull it off, it'd be Denis Villeneuve.

I have far more confidence about this film being good than I do for Alien: Covenant (though the current set photos and images that are hitting the web for that look relatively promising so far).

I agree about Scott. I feel he is a mixed bag throughout the films of his I have seen. Blade Runner itself is a mixed bag IMO. I own the final cut, and his vision holds up great today. And the final cut is great IMO, and I kind of wish the movie was left alone.

Out of curiosity, has anyone else here seen the concept art that's been released so far for this film? It looks pretty good.

This will most likely continue the recent trend of " Soft Reboot /  Remake / Nostalgic Sequel ".

I predict it will most likely just be the first film again with new characters.

In the Jurassic World / Force Awakens mould. Both of which made over $1bn

Yeah there's no way Blade Runner 2 is coming close to a billion though.  :lol

But I think it has the potential to be a really great film.

You don't get a guy like Denis Villeneuve just to retread the original. Normally I'd be right there with you on the skepticism, but getting Denis to helm the film makes me have a considerably higher amount of faith in the film.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the film's story takes elements from PKD's original novel and implements them here. The original film deviated really heavily from the book and so there's some pretty killer stuff that Denis could tap into and repurpose for his film that would add a new angle that wasn't present in the original Blade Runner film.

Trailer was neat for how brief it is.

But.........the movie is almost a year away. Isn't it a bit early for a trailer? I feel like they're releasing trailers earlier and earlier these days. which then causes them to release more and more film footage leading up to the actual film to make up for it.

Probably the best director working today, and Deakins as DP, amazing cast, great composer, everything is really lined up for this to be one of the best films of 2017.

Loved the teaser trailer. Blade Runner is my favorite film of all time. I discovered the BR universe through a Westwood point 'n click adventure game in the 90's (which is excellent). I literally can't wait to see this sequel.

Roger Deakins should replace Blandy Mc Blandy as Chris Nolan's new DP.

Interstellar looked so devoid of colour.

Compared to Inception which was absolutely gorgeous to look at and won Wally Pfister an Oscar - who has now given up Cinematography

A friend of mine had that game, and my brothers and I would go to his house to play it when we were kids. I was too young to really know what was going on at the time, though.

Cool! When I first saw the film I still preferred the game. :lol

What's cool about it is that you play another Blade Runner detective. The game's story takes place in the same world. There are references to Deckard but the story runs parallel to the one in the movie. The decors and even camera angles are very similar to the game which is pretty impressive. There are a dozen different endings to the game, depending on your playing. A revolutionary thing at the time, while now it's pretty common with for example Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls etcetera.

I said it awhile back- if there's anyone that can make this movie work, it'll be Denis Villeneuve. I'm beyond stoked to see this film.
