i need to catch up on these woops
amenra: pretty solid post-metal, i think it's a bit underwritten at times but i really like the third main track a lot and there's some good stuff in all the tracks in general. not a favorite or anything but it's enjoyable enough
kaddisfly: this, however, is a favorite. damn. i knew this would be good and it... basically just lived up to my expectations. it's just a much better el cielo. i will continue to repeat that. via rail and forest are both amazing tracks and there's a lot of good to great tracks here besides, only like one or two tracks i'm not huge on but nothing bad at all. but yeah. good concept, booklet here is really nice especially, good music, what more can you ask for
pallbearer: i really, genuinely love the last track here but the rest of the album is just... ehh. i've been listening to it for like a month now and still couldn't tell you much about the rest of the tracks here. it's even weaker than the latest elder, which i was also not a huge fan of, but ehh, this style just isn't really for me i guess. still, one great song at least, i guess
exist: this might genuinely be better than their 2017 album, which i already like a lot. the biggest roadblock is that vessel is notably weak & kills the moment of the album but the other 6 tracks are rad as hell with just, so many creative and interesting instrumental moments & the album flows so well besides, i literally have no clue what vessel is doing on this album, it doesn't belong and is really dull compared to the rest of this good god damn prog metal music. sheesh. like okay no one song blows me away but they're all setting a pretty high bar and keeping me engaged, except this one track. bleh
hypno5e: i got exactly what i expected here. every track is better than the last except maybe the first two are about on the same level. the first two tracks? okay. third track? pretty good? last two tracks? great. i think the less metal they get the more i like them, obviously, but there's some good metal moments here (mostly relegated to tracks 3 onward - see my point). i wouldn't call it a favorite album but i like it, yeah. more than the one song i got in my roulette would've led me to believe
oddland: this album has some good songs and then some songs that get lost in the shuffle, and some notably weak songwriting moments (the one slower song that breaks into this crazy prog bit near the end and then just goes back to the chorus after is laughable, i think it's track 5). it's a good style in general but it's not grabbing my interest as strongly as exist (and, spoiler, adimiron which i'll talk about more next week). but it's still pretty good prog metal regardless, yeah. iirc ire was the best track between both of their albums (and it is, really good) but i think i liked origin more on the whole so we'll see when i get to spinning that in a few weeks
