I just realized the cover had a collage of his old album covers.  :facepalm:

haha, it's still a great cover though.

Speaking of KD, I just had a listen to;

Unfortunately, not very impressive, but I didn't give it my full attention.  Will listen again but nothing special at all.

The Denner/Shermann is on Spotify so I'm checking it out now. First song isn't too bad. I'm not a fan of the vocals, though. His voice is all over the place and is ruining what could be something really good.

Peck is what turns me off a little too.  The elements are there, but there is just something about what he's doing that makes me not able to take it seriously or something.

Exactly. It's almost like some amateurish singer trying to find his place in the music. I like the music though; it's dark and heavy like Mercyful Fate.

I actually wish they got a singer quite a bit different with their own style from someone trying to do the King Diamond thing.  I know his voice is a bit different, but not really.  bah, I know what I mean.

Most people feel 'Dirt' is their best album.  Personally, I don't think you can beat 'Facelift'.  Killer tunes from beginning to end.  Just listened to an awesome podcast interview with Jerry Cantrell (Dean Delray's "Let There Be Talk").  I had to put the album on.

I think I might like Dirt more, too, but Facelift is still amazing.

Listening to some bands I'm going to see at Wacken, Panzerballett is surprisingly good. I really like the combination of Jazz and metal.

Listening to a podcast retrospective on this album yesterday had me yearning to hear some of these songs again.  I can remember waiting outside my college CD shop twenty-three years ago, waiting for 12:00 AM to come so they'd open their doors to their midnight madness sale for all of us to pick this up (along with another pretty good album that came out that day, Rush's 'Counterparts').

how is that?

I can't really review it from a classical music nut's perspective as , although I studied as a young'un , it hasn't stayed with me and I rarely listen to it.  And I am only half way through my first listen..........

Having said that I think it is very strong and really beautiful in parts , which is no small task given a cast of 100+ -  it's a mile better than anything Malmsteen has done in ages (from a neoclassical perspective) and it's right up there with any symphonic stuff I have heard in recent years.   If you want to pick it to pieces from a purist's point of view then I am sure it'll be easy as he has added vocals/lyrics (some of them rather lame but thankfully I take little notice of lyrics :lol) and the first track is an original that really has nothing to do with Vivaldi.

If the thought of a symphonic metal album loosely based around familiar themes from Vivaldi's FOur Seasons appeals then I expect that you will really enjoy it.  I was sceptical going in but am (so far) quite impressed and expect it to be up there in a few Best of 2016 lists..
