If I knew how to write, I'd write something like this. Feels really poetic, great lyrics. Also, it really remind me od Arcade Fire's Funeral. Not that it is similar in terms of music, but overall feel is familiar.

Been listening to tons of Aura lately. I'm starting to get over the terrible drum production and am finally able to really enjoy the music for what it is.
Babymetal is disappointing to me as an album. I mean, Megitsune is one of the best metal tracks ever and Gimme Chocolate! is alright, but the rest borders on bland and outright bad.

Uh, Avantasia? That's a good metal if you ask me. I'm sure you won't like it though.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

never looked into deftones but i guess i'll check out a song or two
avantasia is power metal stuff so ehh  :P

what i've been checking out
vektor - terminal redux: dunno if this is hugely my thing but i listened to about half of it and found it enjoyable enough. thrash metal's never been my thing tho. i'll prob get this.
ihsahn - arktis: this is pretty solid. i won't really know for sure until it listen to it more though, which i will, as i am getting this
king gizzard something - nonagon infinity: yeah, not really my thing. pretty repetitive-sounding to me too. o well a friend suggested this anyways else i'd never have checked it out

Here's a list of excellent releases. Don't blame me if I make a huge dent in your wallet.   ;)

Big Big Train - Folklore
Drifting Sun - Safe Asylum
Lee Abraham - The Seasons Turn
Haken - Affinity
Ihsahn - Arktis (tech/extreme metal)
Vespero - Lique Mekwas (space prog) The only thing I like better than this in 2016 is the new Haken.

already checked out the two metal ones there but i'll look into the rest a little i guess  :lol

mandroid echostar - coral throne: i like this a lot more than i did a month ago when i tried to listen to it. maybe not a top priority but i'll prob pick it up
schammasch - triangle: so umm, holy crap. this is awesome. it's like if swallow the sun songs from the north was more interesting and didn't have a really cruddy third disc

side-note: i'm listening to less than half of each of these albums, either like the first 20-25 minutes or in the case of schammash like 15 minutes of each disc so these aren't even full opinions i just don't have time  :lol

moonsorrow - jun whatever: yeah, this is pretty cool. halfway through the second track was a bit i really dug. not like that special but, enjoyable
headspace - atyfig: ehh. this doesn't feel like it even has the emotional potency of their first album, or at least not from the few tracks i listened to. dunno. probably will pass on this.
borknagar - winter thrice: this is okay. i dunno. i've heard enough proggy black metal by this point that this is just pretty unremarkable in comparison, at least on first listen, but it sounds alright enough at least. just not that compelling. i may need to take a break though since i also worry i might just be burnt out by this point, this and headspace were both fine and prob on the same level as mandroid but i'm more tired now so

Definitely a theatrical, conceptual power/prog metal day! Epica/The Black Halo remains an amazing concept, I'm really getting into SX with more listens on V, and it seems like each time I listen to The Great Escape, more of it clicks. Last time it was Wiseman, which I'm absolutely loving now. This time, The Angelmaker really clicked, and King of Whitewater is close. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think Tommy has a novel approach to writing vocal melodies, and I really enjoy his melodies because of that.

Fallujah - Dreamless: from what I listened to I dig this quite a bit. don't listen to enough death metal type stuff
Eight Bells - Landless: this is a pretty interesting style of post-metal, they do a lot with their songs and the female vocals give it loads of flavor on their own. i like it.

Most of my favorite 2016 releases haven't been metal but there's some good shit out there for sure

Glad you finally came to your senses on the Mandroid Echostar album, that was the first that came to mind.

Furthermore:

Lacuna Coil - Delirium
Slice The Cake - Odyssey To The West (this was probably the biggest grower but one of my favorites now)
Deftones - Gore
Novembre - URSA (this is more like doom, but has its metal moments for sure too)
Avatar - Feathers & Flesh

i'll check out deftones i guess because it seems mildly popular and slice the cake might be alright but i tend to dislike deathcore
but i ain't touching lacuna coil with a 10 foot pole lol, even aside from not being a fan of the band to begin with i have heard nothing but bad things about the album

I can't stand the older STC albums either but this one is really more balanced out, it has a lot of cleans, though they're more like storytelling than actually singing, but it just works.

Didn't know Lacuna Coil was being received so negatively :lol I went into it blindly and liked it. You probably won't like Deftones either to be honest but it's my favorite album of 2016 so far so I thought I'd back up jake here.

Oh and I totally forgot about Pacific Myth EP since it was a digital download ofcourse, but that's great aswell and technically got fully released in 2016. Harbinger, Cold Water and Caravan in particular.

one more for tonight i'll finish up what i have to look at tomorrow

big big train - folklore: this feels like it has a bit more unique flavor to it than the english electric albums, which were solid but kind of unmemorable. though i can't say this does much for me, but it's alright? ehh

The best metal release of 2016 so far IMO is Vektor - Terminal Redux which is simply amazeballs. Blackened Progressive Thrash and an album that will just pound you. After that, I'd say the new Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas collab Mariner is really good, and other great metal albums are: Cobalt - Slow Forever (Sludge/Black Metal) and the latest Deftones.

M.T. Eyes sounds familiar. It's filled with that 80s sound, and it's really catchy. It reminds me of Journey in many ways. The others I couldn't really get into. Jorn doesn't do anything for me no matter how many times I try.
