Not as consistently good as Dummy (but then, few albums are), but there are some real gems on there, like Hunter, We Carry On, Machine Gun and Threads. Definitely worth a listen either way.

Good album, but Loveless is so much better.

Can't say that I ever listened to this much as an album , but Scarified was on many a mixtape  :metal

Ok, your opinion changed my opinion  :P

I love 6 tracks on Loveless and also it has only one track i don't care about. In comparison, i only love 3 tracks on Souvlaki and it has 3 i don't care about.

Gave a 10 and 7 overall for the respective albums.

Loveless is more consistently good, but Souvlaki has much better highs. The lows on Souvlaki aren't even bad either.

Loveless is the bigger cult album and the more classic, but Souvlaki is slightly better. But they're both really good. I think MBV being rated higher than Slowdive in general (more popular) is a joke considering Slowdive's discography as a whole is far superior to MBV's. Apart from Loveless, the rest MBV has done is very OK whereas the other 2 Slowdive albums are both genuinely great.

I still remind the first time i listened to Souvlaki. I already knew and loved Machine Gun and When the Sun Hits but, when i decided to explore the rest, it wasn't up to par. It was very disappointing because i had this feeling i would love the album.

Agreed on those, great tracks. But I feel most songs are... unfinished, some really go nowhere or end up abruptly. Still a good album.

My first serious attempt to get into this behemoth. It was more fucked up than expected, but I quite like to atmosphere so I'll get back to it later this week. It should take me no less than 10 listens to start to "get it", but I think it will be worth the ride.

just disc 1 for now

...meh. too long. even this disc is too long. it's hard to listen to the album because while there's good music, there's not enough of it between the average/meh moments

I remember the day I discovered that album (in June 2014 :D), I listened to that album multiple times. And I rarely, if ever, do that. Sadly, their other albums I heard didn't click with me (yet).

I liked the most recent album they put out with Chelsea Wolfe appearing on a song, but Russian Circles (and God Is an Astronaut) always came off as middle of the road-tier post-rock/metal to me. Nothing too interesting. :(

I'm just getting into GIAA and I like them, especially All Is Violent, All Is Bright. That album and RC's Enter are among few post-rock album I can listen to anytime. Both are pretty accessible. For something like Godspeed I have to be in certain mood. But I'm not too big fan of post-rock. Another album I love is Mono's Hymn to the Immortal Wind.

all is violent, all is bright was one of the least interesting post-rock albums i've ever gotten. dunno. maybe it's because i was never huge into that song-based style of post-rock, my favorite post-rock albums are the ones where all the songs flow into each other and are heavily atmospheric  :lol

I am fan of, as you say, song-based style of post-rock (there is also If These Trees Could Talk) :lol.
Have you ever listened to Mono? They are atmospheric, have strings and shit, really great stuff. There are more of those I know but, as I said, I'm not always in mood for that kind of music.

I don't know why I don't listen to this more. There are some awesome renditions on here. This version of Outlaw Torn is legendary and might be Metallica's single best track.

hymn to the immortal wind was in my top 50 albums list :P
i actually have the last four mono albums and i've listened to their older stuff too, generally i find their music pleasant but not really especially memorable, hymn is really good though

i kinda like this but the vocals are a bit of a turn-off, too metalcore-y for my tastes
musically pretty solid though.

Just learned that my copy of Affinity is arriving tomorrow instead of Wednesday or Thursday as I expected, so I'm having to do my relisten more quickly than I expected to!

Finishing my run through their back catalogue, and then I'll listen to Affinity tonight. Weirdly enough, Restoration is only just now clicking for me, so I may end up with two really nice discoveries today.

I think I've heard perhaps one Haken song, once, that's it.

Before I got my roulette submissions I listened to Gamma Ray - Insanity and Genius.  Good, heavy raw solid power boarding on straight up heavy metal on that one, I love it.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.
