After initially thinking the Dio worship was cool I really fell out of love with the vocals of NPJ - pretty much became a caricature to me.

Yeah, the DIO worship was strong. They were never much of a favourite.

I hear ya.  I'm still only a couple of albums in to the back catalog, and it is sounding quite samey.  If it's simply 8 albums that are variations on a theme (ie, ARP and/or Harem Scarem syndrome), then I'll likely just stick with the new release and enjoy it on it's own.

Though, that raspy/gargly sound isn't quite what I'd relate to Dio.  More like UDO/Tornillo?  I'm not a huge Accept fan, so I might be off on that comparison.

He's an interesting guy     And that voice he does isn't his natural voice at all - on the odd occasion that I have heard him use his real voice it has been really strong and so much more listenable than what he's known for.

I hadn't realised he is the singer with Wuthering Heights, and you're right, he doesn't sound like he's doing the Stars In Their Eyes version of RJD.
