DTF Casino Trip
« on: April 13, 2016, 12:27:41 PM »
Sorry this won't apply to all, but I didn't want to bog down the another thread with the discussion, and others might not see the topic there if we continue.

To anyone within reasonable distance of New England, several of us are throwing around the idea of taking a trip to Mohegan Sun Casino. This is still in the infancy stages, but please state whether or not you'd be interested.

I'd definitely be interested. I don't usually do the casino thing but I'd be up for a good time regardless. I'll throw some hundreds in the slut machines.

If it was a little closer, I'd totally be down.  Mrs. C. LOVES to go to the casinos and play blackjack.  In 2010, I took her to ACNJ for her birthday.  She sat at a blackjack table for 10 hours straight.  Didn't leave to eat or anything.  It was pretty impressive.  Walked away with a lot of cash too, which helped.

I was there for New Year's Eve and it did not disappoint.   There were still the 60 year olds sitting at the slot machines dressed like it was their living room and Golden Girls was about to come on, but still...

Man, if I were in the area I'd totally be in. Maybe one day if there's a concert or something, we could plan a big meetup or something.

Man, that's some crazy party you have in mind there.

Anywho, I live in the west coast.  It's a no-go for me and I don't think I'm that kind of guy that will casually take a trip east to a casino and spend hundreds of dollars without any regret.

It's only regret if you wake up besides a midget who is wearing two strap-ons but can't seem to remember stopping at the S & M shop.

yikes

So Mohegan Sun is a 3 hour drive away from me.  Would we be thinking this trip is just one night?  If so Saturday would be better for me since a Friday after work would result in getting there somewhat late (unless I can leave early or maybe take the day off).  But then again prices for a saturday night room are crazy expensive.  Regardless, I want to go and if we aren't planning something serious I may shoot around the idea with my friends or something because it would be a nice change up from AC.

A Saturday would be best for me too. I can't stand how expensive the rooms are there. My girlfriend's parents spend a shitload there and get comped rooms all the time. Whenever my girlfriend and I spend the night there, we take advantage of those perks.

Idk. That's tricky. The thing is, Victoria and I can stay in the rooms, but her parents need to be the ones to claim the reward. They have to come with us and then they give us the room. They'll usually gamble a bit and then take off (or get comped another room and stay). I'd feel super weird asking her parents to drive to the casino so I can get a room with some dude I met on the internet.

Yeah, I said I know people and I do, but for all the "free wheelin', gamblers paradise", they keep the free rooms on a short leash.   The best I've ever done - and it was a one-off - was a room that was going for about $750 a night for rack rate ($140, I think, I don't remember).   I asked the guy I know best there - who's a pretty senior guy there - and it's for the exact reason Chino says:  the last thing they want are some college kids that aren't going to spend shit in the casinos or restaurants coming down and making that room Party Central.  It's a fun place, but it's NOT Spring Break or "Girls Gone Wild".

This thread and the convo that lead to this thread has convinced me I need to go to a casino to party again... so going to AC Saturday night.  Those Connecticut casinos are so expensive for a room for the night, but with priceline I always get a sweet "express deal" for Harrahs so this one saved me 48% for the night.  :metal

Or Nick. These guys are party animals alright.

But seriously, which Mohegan Sun, the CT one or the PA one? I tend to assume PA because that's the one that I always hear about given it's closer to me, but never safe to assume.

I believe this thread was based on the connecticut one, how is the PA one?  Never gone, but even the PA casinos are more expensive than AC.

Never been, but we get the ads on tv and radio for it whenever any concerts are going to be happening so I knew it had to be nearby. Googled it and saw it was in/near Wilkes-Barre which is only 90 minutes from me. I enjoy a good game of poker from time to time but never played at a casino and probably don't want to. Would be great fun to watch though.

My ex used to go to that one (Parx) and she liked it, but still preferred the AC casinos. I think she said when she first joined Parx they were throwing so much comp at her. I guess just to reel her in, but then it dwindled.

Comps are a good reason to keep going.  I think this will be maybe my 6th trip to AC in the last two years always going to Harrahs.  We have a secret on how to score some free food and an upgrade.  Like I mentioned before, I always use priceline and their express deals.  Even though they don't tell you what hotel, they give enough clues and I've done this enough to always know which deal is for Harrah's so I usually get at least 25% off (this time was almost 50%).  Then after we check in, my friend who is pretty good a bullshitting usually inspects the room and ALWAYS finds something wrong, usually minor and then he bullshits to the front desk about how much worse it really is and adds a bunch of story to it (I actually filmed him doing the BS story last time  :lol) that we always get at least 75$ in free food comped and often they upgrade us to a nicer room.  So there is my way of going to AC for cheap.  Also we bring our booze and even though you can't bring your own booze into the club, we have a hiding spot in the plants outside the back door so since they let you in and out, well we just step out when we need a drink.   Plan is in full effect for Saturday.

My ex-wife was a big gambler, so I would go with her sometimes. I always preferred Harrah's for their buffet. For me, in AC, it's about the food.  :lol  I don't gamble much.

I used to go down midweek with my dad. We'd get a room at the Tropicana for like 50 bucks, and then spend all our time at the Borgata. Always a nice steak dinner at the Old Homestead steakhouse.

Yes, the buffet is awesome there, hence why I like getting the free food credits.
