Sorry for the long post.
I work at my family's grocery store, a fairly small one, but we do really good business and are constantly busy. We have a large produce section with both refrigerated and dry produce. This weekend, both stock people didn't fill dry produce and when they came in this morning, that was one of the first things they did and they weren't too happy about it.
Me and another employee opened up on Sunday morning and it was left in the night note (the note managers leave the night before for the opening manager) that they didn't fill dry produce. Me and the other manager didn't get a chance to fill it, and it didn't look bad, just not filled completely. We were busy working on other things, but we have a stock person on Sunday that is in their job description that they fill dry produce. So, I guess we were banking on him getting around to it. Well, as it turned out this morning he didn't fill it. The manager today went to talk to him about it and he said that he forgot and didn't really notice that it needed to be filled. I don't agree with that, because it really wasn't that busy and he had plenty of time to fill the produce.
The manager I opened with yesterday morning was talking to the guy that was supposed to fill the dry produce and he was kinda indifferent about getting talked to and was sarcastic and said he felt like telling them: "Sorry for actually making you work" That irritated me because he didn't do his job and we spent all day working on produce. The manager I opened with yesterday earlier in the day seemed kinda irritated that he didn't do his job but then after talking to him seemed to side with him even though he didn't do his job and instead she took the blame for not filling it yesterday before we left.
When she was telling me about what he felt like saying and seemed to take his side, I showed my irritation and felt like it was unnecessary for him too feel that way and that he didn't do his job and just deal with it. She got and mad at me and pushed passed me. Now this manager, I've worked with her for three years and we've become good friends and it's often noted that we work well together and thus are scheduled together almost every day. I have feelings for her which sometimes complicate how I view things, I always try to make her happy and side with her but on this one, I couldn't. I felt like shit, she was mad at me and I felt bad. We left on mostly good terms, but she still seems mad.
The more I thought about it, I kinda see it from her side and feel even worse. It wasn't all that guy's fault that he didn't fill dry produce because
A) They didn't do it for Saturday night for some reason
B) The manager that filled it this morning did a horrible job doing it and she ended up throwing away most of what he put up because it was moldy or past the sell by date
C) Yeah, we could have done it yesterday but we ran out of time. I don't like this one because I don't think it's our fault, but I still feel bad.
D) We didn't have much to do today, so having this to do kinda helped pass the day
I don't know why I typed all of this out for you guys, but it's just plaguing my mind and a feel bad that I pissed her off. I just am mad that he didn't do his job, and he should have done it, but there were more factors than just him not doing produce on Sunday and I didn't see it from her side and blew her off and I feel bad about it. I gotta wait until tomorrow to talk about it with her and hopefully we'll get over it. We always do, but I just have a shitty feeling right now and talking about it with you guys helps.
