If I'm not popular enough to get more than 10 people (very likely :lol)

*reads this, looks somberly to the 16-player participant list after less than a day*

18 now!  Holy shit... I hope I make it past qualifications.

I will definitely be quite embarrassed if I don't make it there.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Alright, so here's that information I said you would want to have before sending anything. If there are any stragglers who would like to join, I'll still be accepting people signing up for a few days but in the meantime everyone can start sending their submissions for the first qualifying round. Given the number of people who signed up, there will be two qualifying rounds.

Submitting
  • My preference is to receive submissions via Spotify. You can either PM me URI links (I prefer them to URL links) or you can send songs to me directly through Spotify. To do that just type my username - bolsters.s - into the Spotify search bar to find my profile, and click the button under my username in order to follow me. After I have also followed you back, you will be able to right click and "share" any song with me.
  • If the song you would like to send is not on Spotify, you are one of those poor saps who can't use Spotify for some reason, or you're simply stubborn and refuse to use it - you can PM links to me where I can stream your songs. This includes but is not limited to: Youtube, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, etc.
  • If you need to send me a file, use MEGA or send it via email (address provided at request).
  • The length limit for all rounds is 12 minutes. However, each of you will have the option of sending one song during the roulette that exceeds this, with no limit imposed, in any round you wish. I would ask that you consider the number of songs I have to listen to and the short amount of time I will have to devote to the song before sending anything of considerable length. Still, if you've got a longer song in mind for me, have at it. The song length limit for the qualifiers however is 10 minutes.
  • Any artist sent to me during the roulette is automatically banned for the remainder, regardless of my thoughts on the song I received. The banned artist list has a list of artists banned during the roulette at the bottom.

Bonuses

Before sending anything, you may want to consider the following. While there will be no round themes here, I have added seven optional bonuses, and your songs will receive bonus points if you send something that fits. You may receive only three of these bonuses throughout the roulette, you can net just one of them per song, and you personally can not aquire any of the bonuses twice. Since you can only be awarded three of the seven, it's up to you to decide which ones you want to go for (if any). These bonuses won't be available in the qualifying rounds so if you've got a good idea or three in mind, I'd suggest holding onto them until the main competition starts.

The seven bonuses are as follows:
  • Orchestral/Symphonic - Any song that prominently features orchestral or symphonic instrumentation.
  • Ballad - self-explanatory.
  • Instrumental - self-explanatory.
  • Pre-1980 - Any song that was released in 1979 or earlier.
  • World Music - Any song that features world music influence.
  • Synth/Electronic - A song that is primarily synths, or is electronic.
  • Multiple Vocalists/Choir - Any song featuring more than one lead vocalist, or prominently featuring a choir.

I'll post a few clarifications and hints regarding these before the main competition starts.

Information

My Last.fm profile can be viewed here for those interested in that, and my first roulette here. I don't consider my Last.fm to be 100% accurate in representing my tastes, but it may still prove useful.

Nice, I can work with this. Plenty of holes to fill.

I also have a nice idea for 3 of the bonus "themes", were I to make it past the qualifiers. Will send today probably!
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

I only see 16. I didn't forget anyone did I? :rollin

No, you're right.  I didn't realize you had listed the participants alphabetically - so I was looking for Evermind and Tyrias at the bottom of your list... not seeing them, I thought they still needed to be added.

Banned list + submitting.... tl:dr (for now).
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

Unless I'm a dumbass and I missed it: how many rounds?

And do we have to specify a certain bonus we're going for when we send a track, or will you decide if a song was applicable? Reason being, I can immediately think of multiple songs that fulfill like 3 or 4 of those categories at once, so do I have to say which one I'm going for, or is that song potentially up for any of those 3 or 4?

The fuck?!  :lol

I was always fond of McLachlan's couple of singles.  On My Own was a good Bon Jovi rip off.  That song Stefan Dennis did though was fucking GOLD!

How the fuck am I gonna find time to compete in two roulettes at once again?!  :(

Well you might be a dumbass, I'm not really sure. :neverusethis: But I had not mentioned how many rounds there would be. There will be eight, or ten if you include the qualifying rounds.

In cases like this, you will need to tell me which of the multiple bonuses your song qualifies for you want.

Sent I think.  Dave, I tried to send you a song in Spotify, I hope I did it right, let me know.
It worked perfectly.
