Highlander 30th Anniversary
« on: March 11, 2016, 03:00:02 AM »
I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but this year also sees the 30th anniversary of Highlander, released on the 7th March 1986 (US).

I must admit to loving this movie. Great concept, great characters, great locations, great soundtrack by Queen. There are some truly bizarre things about it that shouldn't really work, like:
  • A French guy playing a Scot
  • The only Scottish star (Sean Connery) playing a Spanish prince
  • Spanish prince has a Scottish accent
  • The fact that the main character does not age, apparently with nobody noticing.
Still, you can think too hard about these things, and I still love it. However, I think its legacy has been weakened by the terrible sequels and mediocre TV series that followed. They should have left well alone!

There can (and should have been) only one!!

The original Highlander is one of my favorite movies ever made.

I read some mentions of a remake a while back, but I really hope it doesn't happen. What's with all the remakes these days?

I dunno.  I mean, for sure the sequels are terrible.  But I don't think the first film was all that great, either.

Interesting idea, and hey, Connery.  But I'm not sure how great a film can be if the best thing about it is the soundtrack.  *shrugs*
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I think I liked the concept so much that I was able to get over some of the silliness. I prob didn't know any better at the time too.   ;D

I'm sure any teenager watching it today would laugh their legs off at it. Kids today don't get how great the 80's were..  ;)

I like the movie, but for he most part I thought the series was better. Not every episode, but there were some good stories, lots of action, humor, decent special effects, etc.
I can't stop the world from turning around, or the pull of the moon on the tide, but I don't believe that we're in this alone, I believe we're along for the ride...

One of my most favorite movies from the 80s, and one of my most favorite lines - still to this day.

That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".
