I think Die Hard 3 is a better movie, but not a better Die Hard movie. In fact, it wasn't originally written as a Die Hard movie. They just shoved John McClane into an existing script.

I wouldn't call Die Hard 4 (the hi-tech one with Justin Long) the best, but it's certainly better than 3 or 5.

1&2 are in a class of their own.

Die Hard 2 has some of the worst acting I've ever seen in a movie. 3 is awesome. Definitely my favorite. 4 wasn't bad, but suffered the PG13 treatment. The unrated cut was a little better, but was kinda awkward with random ADR "fucks" thrown in. 5 was so disappointing it makes me sad. Of course the first movie is tits.

We align in this aspect for the most part. Though I might actually favor 3 over the original. I don't like 2 at all and I like 4 because of the whole hacking aspect.

Die Hard 4 was the first Die Hard film I saw. I absolutely love it. I gave the first movie a chance was found myself pretty bored.

What ever happened to him after that movie? I've seen him in several comedies, but since Die Hard, he seemed to disappear entirely.

Don't bother with 5. It's not even Die Hard. In the first two films - John McLane is just some guy in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In 5 - he may as well be Arnie. He's basically a superhero in it.

I'm not much into action movies anyway. I watched Die Hard 4 because someone lent me a copy, and I liked the franchise. The trailer for 5 didn't interest me one bit.

When I lived near my bro in England - we would always hook up to go and watch crappy movies at the cinema just for the laughs.

We saw Total Recall 2012 - it was terrible - but looked nice

Die Hard 5 - which was awful and looked terrible.

RoboCop 2014 - which we both actually really liked.

In fact since this is the controversial movie thread - i'd even say Robocop 2014 was better than Robocop 2.

I'd say pretty much anything is better than Robocop 2. I didn't realise they had made a 3rd one, but Peter Weller had the good sense to bail on that one.

I thought the 2014 one was ok, but for me it goes in the "didn't need to be made" category.

I didn't hate the new Robocop, but I wouldn't compare it to the first two at all (I actually love the second movie). Better than the third movie though.

Didn't need to be made.

Was really good for those type of "brand recognition quick buck" remakes.

I think it did the best it could. It wasn't a complete remake and wasn't quite a sequel. It even had some new ideas the originals didn't.

I read that the studio were constantly asking the director to throw stuff out - to make it more PG-13... I'd love to see the film he imagined.

I think Joel Kinnaman was a more likable Murphy than Peter Weller. I liked him in The Killing on Netflix, if you have watched that..

The thing with the OTT violence in the original, it was done on purpose as a statement on the culture at that time. The new one was more of a straight up action movie, rather than trying to make any social comment.

PG-13 is what sells the tickets..

I actually liked Die Hard 4. Is it as good as the movies before? No, but I still thought it did a fairly good job in terms of how a modern Die Hard movie would look. I think people hate on it way too much, especially when Die Hard 5 was such a crapfest. The 5th one makes the 4th look like Citizen Kane. One of the most unexciting action movies I've ever seen. Bruce Willis looked like he wanted to take a nap through the whole film, and they didn't even try to make it exciting. "I guess i'm going to Russia now", and then quotes like "I got nothing better to do" and everyone just seemed bored.

The first one is still the best by far though. As much as I enjoy 2, 3 and 4, the original is the only one that I would call a masterpiece.

I'm basing this off of only the opinions of my friends, but the fact that it was PG-13 turned a lot of people off. One refuses to see it because it's not rated R.

(I grew up on Shallow Hal, School Of Rock, Nacho Libre, Tenacious D, and more recently Bernie and Be Kind Rewind).

1) One of the best music-related movies of all time. No question. Pure genius.
2) I love Jack Black's movies for the most part, but I find his Tenacious D stuff to be pretty annoying. Bernie was phenomenal.
