That was one of those "Is this really happening?" games.  No way should New England have lost that game, yet they did.  The Jets came to play that day.  And then they laid down for the Steelers the following week, in typical Rex Ryan fashion.

Speaking of them, no one is talking about it - because, why would they, they are the Bengals - but they have lost their number 2 and 3 WRs to free agency.  Gonna make it tough for them to win that division again, especially with the Ravens likely to contend again (unless they get crushed by injuries again).

He has never come off as an asshole to me.  I listen to Boomer and Carton sometimes and he is easily the "not asshole" of the two, but granted that is a radio play on how the two interact.

Not a star.  Just a careless 'kid' having fun.  I hate reading stories like this, when you know that just one thing done differently could have prevented this accident.  And I feel for whoever was driving.

NFL approves ejection proposal for 1-year trial

I think this is a good rule, and frankly it seems strange that there wasn't already some form of it in place.

Also approved was making the starting place for a touchback on a kickoff the 25 instead of the 20.  Thoughts?

The ejection rule makes senes, reminds me of the Giants vs. Panthers game where that should have happened so I'm fine with it... but I can't stand the kick off rule changes even if I understand it's for safety.

I don't like the ejection rule.  I think refs should just exercise the discretion they already have to eject a player if the player crosses the line.  But making it "automatic" can easily result in some unfair ejections.  Refs already had discretion to eject players, so I'm not sure why this is even needed.  I think the NFL should have simply trained refs to enforce their ejection powers if they felt players were being dirty and flagrantly disregarding safety.

I don't generally like monkeying with rules, especially those that alter longstanding mechanics of the game.  The touchback rule falls squarely into that category.  But that said, that is an interesting one, and I kinda like it because I think it will result in fewer kicks out of the back of the endzone, which means more actual returns, which means more fun.

I think this is kind of the opposite. It moves where you start with the ball after you take a touchback from the 20 out to the 25, giving teams less of an incentive to attempt a return.

I think this is kind of the opposite. It moves where you start with the ball after you take a touchback from the 20 out to the 25, giving teams less of an incentive to attempt a return.

I think what Bosk1 is on to is that by moving the ball to the 25 after a touchback, they could tempt some of the teams to explore kicking it in front of the endzone so they don't have to yield a quarter of the field before the first play. It's a matter of the kickers being able to place the ball, even though that's much trickier to do for them than it is for punters for multiple reasons. I could see the Pats or Steelers toying with this idea.
