Heaven's Cove
« on: February 09, 2016, 05:36:26 AM »
The athmoshpere, the whole buildup with the eerie keyboards, then the piano and the heavy guitars coming in....and finally in the end the subtle gentle piano...a perfect four minute song in my book! And nobody talks about this song???

Under the glow of the midnight moon
Where the stars touch the sky
Stand the long forgotten names of a time gone by

Heaven's Cove was a wondrous sight
Once a beautiful place
Now an empty shell, like a memory that time erased

As the pivotal moment draws closer
Every shadow and whisper at night
Music will rise like a phoenix from the ashes on this night
From the ocean comes the notion that the realise lies in rhythm. The rhythm of vision is dancer, and when you dance you´re always on the one. From the looking comes to see, wondrous realise real eyes....

I never thought much about this song the first couple of listens but since it has grown on me a lot.
The choral section at the beginning reminds me a little of the soundtrack to The Abyss.
Also, it has now one of my favourite vocal melodies - "Music will rise like a phoenix from the ashes on this night" - which suddenly stuck out to me the other day.
The "Heaven's Cove was a wondrous sight" section reminds me musically of something else but I can't think what it is.
Nobody talks so much about many of the songs on Act II so much as Act I, which is a shame because there is still some great stuff during it (aside from Our New World), but a lot of it is underrated.
I always guessed that was because they are not seen as great stand-alone songs that you can hear and enjoy irrespective of the storyline. But that is the whole point of Act II - telling a story and letting the music interpret it. However, Heaven's Cove doesn't so much tell the events in the story but merely sets the scene for future events to play out.

I'm slowly falling in love with more and more of the songs on this album, and this one really struck me the other day. Loving the guitar because it sounds a lot like OTBOA. And I love the "Music will rise..." line as well

The "Heaven's Cove was a wondrous sight" section reminds me musically of something else but I can't think what it is.

The vocal lines remind me of a scene in Mockingjay part 1, where Katniss is singing a song called "The Hanging Tree". I'm not exactly sure how to describe that sort of music, but to me it sounds sort of religious, and irish, so I'd go with that.

I'd gladly post a clip of that scene, but I'm not sure if it's permitted?

However, Heaven's Cove doesn't so much tell the events in the story but merely sets the scene for future events to play out.

That's one of the reasons why I think it could fit in future setlist (also, it doesn't mention any characters).

I love the Diablo 2 style intro
I love the keyboard sound then
I love the heavy part

I think it's nearly my favorite song, it's only drawback is that it's not 15 minutes long !

Also a really cool song, and a highlight, if not the highlight, of Act II. Along with the Walking Shadow perhaps.

Amazing song. The keyboards at the beginning sound like the keyboards off of Amorphis's "Black Winter Day".

Love it very much. The title is really fitting also!

I've been drinking beer since I was 18 and dabbled since I was 16. I have at least 500 beer bottles in my collection and love the fancy shit though my wallet doesn't. I'll drink liquor not even five times a year including shots or mixed drinks. Jack Daniels and Coke is an easy go-to for me. Very smooth nads candy sweet.

Good tune.

That middle section, just after the 2-minute mark, sounds very Camel-esque. Those synth leads sound like early Camel.  Great stuff.

Reminds me of Diablo (the videogame)

That's a great thing, of course.

This song has a really nice build up and mood. The synth lead with the outburst are really cool and I love the verse with the steady beat and vocals. The piano outro is cool. So many cool parts in this song!

Act II two is growing for me in a steady pace!

3:12-3:30 sounds like a James Bond gunfight sequence or theme. It's really cool

I don't care much for the Is There Anybody Out There? inspired section, I love the Pink Floyd song but for some reason it doesn't resonate the same effect here, but as soon as it ends and JR's amazing little line comes in the whole song is elevated to wondrous levels, killer vocal melody as well.

There is definite Bond theme in there. My first listen and act II was kind of just drifting by then that kicked in and it made me sit up and think wtf?? James Bond???
