The Astonishing sequel ideas
« on: February 09, 2016, 03:26:00 AM »
Hey, let's come up with ideas for sequels. Humorous ones welcome.

- Xander's revenge: Daryus is forgiven, yeah but by whom? Surely not by Xander.

- New king: Daryus has enough of Nafaryus favoring Gabriel. He kills Nafaryus and assumes throne. Despotism rises anew.

- Marriage crisis: Gabriel and Faythe go to holiday in Cuba, Gabriel gets food-poisoned, breaks his vocal cord in an empty heave, cannot sing properly and Faythe falls for a guy with a Gitarrón.

Gabriel and Faythe's daughter destroys everything when she talks or sing, she runs away to a remote castle and sings let it go all day ? :D

The NOMACs become sentient and start blasting people with their music at high volume until their ear drums explode.

This is highly, highly unlikely but I've noticed something. That final note of Astonishing right after "..again.". I think that every other time it appears in the album something bad happens or a "bad character speaks/sings".

The Road to Revolution:   2:20 - Daryus speaks after it.

Moment of Betrayal: I think it appears more than once here and well the song is about betrayal.

I can't remember if it occurs anywhere else on the album right now.

In all seriousness though, I think there is plenty of scope for prequels here. Perhaps Nafaryus' upbringing and the story of Bug.

I agree with this. Or maybe Arhys and Gabriel childhood and growth into adults. We could learn how Gabriel discovered his gift and how Arhys met Evangeline (which would allow us to learn more about her)

Yeah, I think some sort of prequel would be a better idea. The e-mails sent by Nafaryus implied that in 2028 an important event took place (I guess that's when the 'current' Empire in 2285 began), so I think it would be cool for some explanation of how the world was* in 2028...

*Or 'is going to be'.

I want them to expand on the world that The Astonishing is set in, rather than just a plain sequel.
What about all those locations on the map, for instance?

They could have both. I mean, okay, so Gabriel introduced everyone to music and now Nefaryus is all good and benevolent. But what if there were neighboring nations that were still trying to oppress their peoples and there's a full on war between the two nations? Or something of the sort.

The perfect sequel would be two years (or less) down the line, they release an album, 8-10 unrelated songs, lyrical input from James and the Johns, that has nothing to do with The Astonishing or any concept.

So in other words, just an album, not a sequel.  It can't get more ideal than that.

Any sequel that happens after this ending will devalue The Astonishing itself IMO.

Maybe, but I think it would improve on it if they expanded the world they've been creating for the Astonishing

Same level of diversity and songwriting and sound quality.

10 individual unrelated tracks.

Doing another one so soon will be stupid I think.

Their last concept album was in 1999. 17 years ago. You need to make people want another one. Not just do them just because.

No sequal necessary..
Hypothetically speaking, it would be funny if the Nomacs woke back up to reveal a more sinister side to them. ala War of the Worlds type destruction.. :corn

Many many years into the future, the lessons learned on the fateful day of the powering down of the NOMACS are largely forgotten by the heavy handed ruling class.  On a journey of self-discovery, the great-great-grandson of Gabriel and Faythe happens to find an artifact that he finds unfamiliar - a guitar - in a cave.  He spends hours manipulating the device and making noises - harmonies and chords and the like - that his ears had never before heard.  He decides he'll take this very important discovery to the temple, to show them this beautiful relic of a time he'd only heard hushed stories about.  As he travels back to the temple, he's struck with a feeling of deja vu, as though something about all of this seems very familiar...

The same timeline as The Astonishing, but told entirely from the point of view of the NOMACs.  I guess it would be a JR solo album.
