Pick FIVE songs.

NOMAC tunes not included for obvious reasons.

For now, I will go with:

The Walking Shadow
A Tempting Offer
My Last Farewell
Whispers on the Wind
Lord Nafaryus

Note: I still like all of these songs except for The Walking Shadow, which is pretty blah, IMO.

Right now:
When Your Time Has Come
Act of Faythe
Brother, Can You Hear Me?
Begin Again
Whispers in the Wind

Also, you might want to change Beign Again to Begin Again  ;)
Seasons change and so can I

There are still a lot of tracks that blur together for me, so I only choose three that I remember as standing out.

Brother Can You Hear Me? - This sounds like something written for the British troops in WW2, not something I want to listen to on a DT album. I can't stand it or the main melody.
Ravenskill - those intro vocals are annoying and weird.
Hymn of a Thousand Voices - Nope.

Also should have probably added MoB, but oh well.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I picked

Whispers On The Wind
Losing Faythe
Begin Again
Act Of Faythe
Brother Can You Hear Me?

Whispers On The Wind I think will come out as the weakest one, it is the shortest non-NOMAC track and really doesn't have much to it other than providing a little bit of information and a gap between Losing Faythe and Hymn Of A Thousand Voices.

Losing Faythe is pretty weak to me, I dislike the crying sample at the beginning, and it is a bit part of why the ending feels very dragged out after The Walking Shadow.

Begin Again is an easy choice - it is fairly boring, but it is also the most criminally superfluous song on the album for me. Even for other tracks I don't like that much or parts where I think the pacing could have been done differently, I can see why they are included and done the way they are. But for Begin Again there is literally nothing new, and I don't see any reason we need to go back to Faythe between setting the scene at Heaven's Cove and the showdown at The Path That Divides.

After that it is quite difficult to choose, but Act Of Faythe and Brother Can You Hear me were two of the tracks I found to be a bit of a drag in Act 1 with some annoying aspects to them. Begin Again, Whispers On The Wind and Losing Faythe are the the bottom 3 right now though.

I've been drinking beer since I was 18 and dabbled since I was 16. I have at least 500 beer bottles in my collection and love the fancy shit though my wallet doesn't. I'll drink liquor not even five times a year including shots or mixed drinks. Jack Daniels and Coke is an easy go-to for me. Very smooth nads candy sweet.

I love the whole album. I could only think of 4 to put here, because after that it's very hard to rank them.
Whispers on the Wind, Begin Again, The Answer and Brother Can You Hear Me.

This ^^^  Cringe worthy for me, but at least it's not too long.

A Life Left Behind (but it's growing on me) - it starts to drag Act I a bit.

Heaven's Cove and Begin Again - both they stall the action, after Moment of Betrayal one just waits for The Path that Divides

Hymn of a Thousand Voices and Our New World - relatively lackluster songs that do not match up the climax of the story they're telling.

Anyway, there's not a song I truly dislike on this record, as in "Oh damn this song sucks so much why they wrote it, my ears are bleeding". These are just the ones I like less, there's nothing I flat out dislike or loathe on this record.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

This. I've started hitting the skip button when this one comes up. It also annoys me when the main melody slips into other songs like "Astonishing"

Dystopian Overture
The Answer
Chosen
2285 Entr'acte
Whispers On The Wind

The Walking Shadow
A Tempting Offer
My Last Farewell
Whispers on the Wind
Lord Nafaryus

Two of my TOP Five!
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

This is where it's an interesting one for me - I tend to skip the song a little as well - I don't dislike it per se, I just want to get to other tracks I prefer. Having said that, I actually enjoy when the melody reappears elsewhere, like the bagpipe section of the X Aspect, and Astonishing etc...

So since the other thread was cancelled, I transferred some comments and made my replies on this one, the thread quoted by the Mod.. I hope that doesn't infringe any rule.. :-[

@ariich: I thought what chaossystem did was a valid thing to do, since no one seemed to be visiting this poll anymore; also, minds change through time about what song can be bad, or "the worst" of an album, so I think an update in this case is very useful..

Anyway, I hope you don't cancel the recent poll I made about the 10 favorite songs from TA.. I must say is different in my case though, since I'm giving the opportunity to pick ten songs, and not just one or five as the other two similar threads were doing..

@KevShmev:
Quote
I find the lack of love for Act of Faythe really bothersome.  That song is really good!! ???

Completely agree with this.. It's an amazing tune.. Deeply underrated so far..

@BlackInk:
Quote
Lyrics are supposed to be a form of poetry, but DT seems to have forgotten this over that last few years.

I can understand that about songs like ItPoE, ARoP, TCoT, and almost all TA.. But, first, the latter is an exceptional case when talking about narrative style because, as Zook said, the new album has the need to be more forthright with the lyric writing cuz they're telling a story, not conceptual stuff, although there are reflections and thoughts of the character throughout the whole lyrics..

Second, in DT12 almost all songs are written in a poetic way, and there's plenty of it in ADToE too.. So I don't think they have forgotten how to write poetry.. But I do think that there has to be someone else writing the lyrics besides JP.. I believe that might be the problem..

Finally, about the song we were talking about (AoF) and more precisely about that line ("My music player, my private paradise"), the first half of it is definitely not poetic, but is it the second one, because is obviously a metaphor, which is a recurrent element in all poetry; and that makes the whole line poetic..

So I'm not following your logic.. :-\

Yeah things change, for sure, but the album has only been out for less than 2 months. It's better to avoid duplication and get people to join this thread, to get the broadest forum-wide perspective. I'll edit the poll so that people can change their choices if they want to.

Understood,. When I started the other poll, I had half-forgotten about this one, and I was trying to do something different. I thought at least that Kev HAD included the NoMac tracks in his. Also, I set that one up for people who really HATE The Astonishing to vote for all but one song. But I understand that we can't just keep doing the same type of thing over and over again.

I am not happy that I dislike this as much as I do. I have tickets and I'm sure it will be enjoyable. Just limiting it to 5 was tough I dislike at least 10 a lot, and a few more a fair amount. Hopefully they got the whole music score think out of their system and will get back to prog metal where they belong. Just my opinion as a huge fan since 1994 buying everything they have ever done, and seeing them on every tour since 98. Most albums stay in my cd player for at least a year, this one as the last do not make the cut.
