Not intended to detract from this thread - https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=45720.0 - which is where you vote for your top 5 favorite tracks from TA, but I was curious to see what you fine folks would vote for if you only had one option. The poll allows you to change your vote as your answer may change over time.

Hard choice, but A Better Life wins.

Nice verses, great chorus (a bit Behind-the-Veilesque but not too much) and that heart-tearing "Evangeline" section.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

That Evangeline section is incredible. Good call!

Thanks for making it possible to change votes, that's crucial for me to be able to vote right now.

So at this very second I'm saying The X Aspect, I just love how huge it sounds towards the end and how emotional the intro is. Could do without the bagpipes but whatever.

Oh and tomorrow it'll probably be Three Days again, I return to that song every time.

Ravenskill for me atm. I can see why it was JLB'S fave. Haunting opening, and evolves into a different beast all together. Love it.  :metal

The Gift of Music.
The first song and it has my heart.
I've been drinking beer since I was 18 and dabbled since I was 16. I have at least 500 beer bottles in my collection and love the fancy shit though my wallet doesn't. I'll drink liquor not even five times a year including shots or mixed drinks. Jack Daniels and Coke is an easy go-to for me. Very smooth nads candy sweet.

Three Days, but Ravenskill is indeed a close second for me.

The whole first act is actually incredible. So many great tracks.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

It is very tough between Three Days and A New Beginning. I will pick Three Days, the epitome of them fully embracing the musical story and delivering the best and most entertaining results, but I could see A New Beginning taking its place eventually.

Right now it has to be A New Beginning. It has a really great vibe to it. I especially love the progression in the "reveal", such a cool moment in both the story and musically.

Gotta go Heaven's Cove, man! It's short, but I love absolutely everything about that song...just rocks like crazy. Also a huge fan of Ravenskill, Dystopian Overture and a few others.

I voted for A New Beginning, easily the least-good best song on an album they've ever done going back through WDADU.  Still a very enjoyable song; I just don't think any of the songs on this album are up to the, dare I say, astonishing quality of the best songs they've produced over the years.

It took my morning brain far too long to parse this sentence, wondering if this was a typo. :lol

But I get what you mean, and it's not necessarily a bad indicator for the album. It's not an album of big epics and standout tracks, it's a connected story where every song serves a specific purpose in the grand scheme, being greater than the sum of its parts (in theory). I guess I'd agree with you, but I hadn't really thought about it, because it doesn't feel as relevant as for an album of individual songs.
SFAM is my second favourite DT album (with the difference between my #1 and #2 being negligible), and yet only a couple of songs would probably have a chance of even cracking my top 20.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I agree that the album shouldn't be measured by its best songs.  It's clearly meant to be experienced as a whole, and like you said each song serves a purpose.  But in comparison, I would say Home is outstanding even though SFAM is a similar album.  I would actually say most of the songs on SFAM are better.  There's lots of enjoyable stuff on this album, it's just not as enjoyable to me as their previous albums.  I guess the whole opera thing doesn't really do it for me as a format.

If you asked me even a few days ago, either Moment of Betrayal or Savior in the Square would have been it.  But Ravenskill and A Tempting Offer have surged ahead, and I think I would have to choose A Tempting Offer right now.

I voted A Tempting Offer as well. I think that's the track I like the most all the way through. There are many cool moments sprinkled in throughout this album, but there are very few tracks where I like the entire song.

I voted Lord Nafaryus, but it might as well be Three Days, A New beginning or Our New World.

The Evangeline section is one of those unexpected turns that reminds me why DT is such a great band.
